Coordinates all of the primary academic support services in the Academic Support Center, including advising, tutoring, accessibility, First Year Seminar (FYS), testing/remediation/Early Entrance, and all support programs/services designed to increase student success and retention.Tutoring:
- Assist with coordination of everyday operations of the campus tutoring center. Recruit and train qualified tutors, interview qualified tutors; supervise, monitor and evaluate work of tutors; coordinate tutor schedules; maintain tutoring files; document all tutoring accurately using the ASC login system; complete all paperwork (RPAs, time sheets, evaluations etc.) related to tutoring; promote tutoring services; encourage use of the ASC feedback survey for assessment and data collection purposes; initiate follow-up with no-shows.
Advising:
- Work with students to define and develop realistic educational/career plans; assist student with initial adjustment to WVNCC/academic life; assist with planning a program consistent with abilities and interests; monitor progress toward educational/career goals; discuss relationships between instructional program and occupation/career goals; interpret and explain institutional policies, procedures, and requirements; discuss all designated educational transactions (e.g., pre-registration/registration, drop/add, withdrawal, change of major and advisor, graduation requirements, etc.); try to make informal out-of-class/office contacts to underscore personal interest in the student as an individual; maintain up-to-date advising records, dates of meetings, notation of special circumstances; if necessary, refer students to other institutional resources when academic, attitudinal, attendance, or other personal problems require intervention by other professionals; proactively contact and be available for student advisees on a regular basis, post and share availability/schedule, contact preferences etc.; consult regularly with faculty colleagues in order to have up-to-date information and to assign and transition students to an appropriate faculty advisor.
Accessibility:
- Coordinate accessibility services for students with documented disabilities according to appropriate federal and state laws/regulations. Assess eligibility for services and determine reasonable academic accommodations in coordination with the Student Disability Coordinator based on appropriate professional documentation or tangible evidence. Maintain confidential files and records on students including documentation of disability, contacts, testing, and other relevant information. Work with students and faculty to implement academic accommodations. Serve as the liaison with all faculty, staff, administrators and support agencies to facilitate the transition of students with disabilities.
Testing/Remediation/Early Entrance:
- Coordinate placement testing and programs designed to assist with placement test preparation and remediation, including FastTrack and review/retest initiatives. Assist campus personnel with organization and planning of Early Entrance program, as appropriate.
First-Year Seminar (FYS):
- Serve as a mentor to new students through the First-Year Seminar (FYS) course and as a workshop facilitator for assigned FYS curriculum objectives. Implement annual ASC programs/events, including, but not limited to: Open House, DeStress Fest, according to the particular needs, schedule and personality of the campus. Other duties as assigned.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Related field
