The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The Program Coordinator, Education will coordinate education and trainee programs for the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. The primary purpose of the Program Coordinator position is to provide professional knowledge and expertise in managing the daily operations, recruitment, accreditation, budgets, policies and procedures, human resources function for all educational programs and activities in the Department.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Program Management

Works independently to coordinate the educational activities that support the department's two fellowship program(s) curriculum and adhere to ACGME and GME requirements. Manages the fellow's recruitment and selection process and manages the details for newly arriving fellows, including appointments, orientation, and information technology access.

Coordinates the development, dissemination, and monitoring of rotation, didactic, and call schedules. Provides input in the coordination and distribution of lecture schedules. Create and manage the fellow, faculty, and program evaluations.

Offers guidance to fellows on the program and GME policies and non-clinical aspects of the program. Compose correspondence and generate reports for the Program Director and Chair in support of assigned fellowship program(s). Liaison and department representative for fellows, Graduate Medical Education, and the Academic and VISA Administration -Trainee Alumni Affairs offices. Maintain current and thorough knowledge of ACGME policies and procedures that impact the program.

Processes all research & clinical trainee to include but not limited to clinical rotations, postdoctoral fellows, research interns, college students, visitors and observers, summer interns, high school students and visiting scientists. Coordinates CME lectures and didactic lectures, journal club, etc. The program coordinator serves as the department liaison between The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.

Resource Management

Maintains databases with fellow and faculty data, including New Innovations and Discover. Coordinate, track and maintain reports for clinical rotations.

Create and routinely update the trainee handbook. Develop, implement and manage the orientation program for fellows. Create and implement best practices to ensure optimized level of productivity and efficiency.

Develop and maintain the policies and procedures applicable to assigned department's fellowship program(s). Ensures the training activities are compliant with all national, state and local standards and institutional policies. Develop, cultivate, and maintain working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from program.

Financial Management

Manages assigned fellowship program(s) budget, in coordination with home department's administrator. Gathers financial data for reporting. Monitors fellowship program allocations.

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of related professional experience.

May substitute education for additional years of experience on a one-to-one basis.
