The Feminist, Gender & Sexuality Studies (FGSS) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Studies Program (LGBT Studies). Both programs are interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. The FGSS and LGBT Studies Programs are dedicated to providing the highest quality of teaching, research, and outreach to undergraduate and graduate students throughout the University. FGSS offers an undergraduate major and both programs offer undergraduate and graduate minors.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Program Assistant/Course Coordinator to provide administrative support for both the FGSS and LGBT Studies Programs. The Program Assistant/Course Coordinator will serve as the primary undergraduate and graduate course coordinator and records person, working independently under the general supervision of the Administrative Manager. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the undergraduate major and minor, as well as the graduate minors in both programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate undergraduate and graduate course scheduling and records management for the FGSS and LGBT Studies Programs.

  • Actively solicit and review requests to cross-list courses with the Directors of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies for FGSS and LGBT Studies.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for individuals interested in FGSS and LGBT Studies, providing information and assistance as needed.

  • Maintain a safe and inclusive office environment for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty.

  • Serve as a critical link between campus academic resources and the services and activities available for students across campus.

  • Assist in event program coordination.

  • Assist in maintaining websites, and preparing bi-weekly newsletter to students, staff, faculty, alumni and community partners

This is a part-time (30 hours/week, 10-month/year (off in June and July)) benefits eligible position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Work hours are flexibile but will be within the timeframe of 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to work a 4 or 5 day work week.

What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is interested in LGBT studies, comfortable working with faculty, and customer service oriented. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associates degree or formal training beyond a HS diploma of 6 months to 1 year; more than 2 years but less than 4 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Have a strong service orientation and ability to work with differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, and needs.

  • Be self-motivated with strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Be flexible and adaptive, working effectively and cooperatively with others.

  • Utilize detail oriented skills and have the aptitude to multi-task, balancing interruptions and conflicting priorities.

  • Be proficient with MS word, Excel, Canva, Drupal

  • Handle confidential information and interact with others regarding sensitive matters is required.

  • Have experience with University systems preferred: R25, CCI, ACALOG, Faculty Center and eSHOP and understanding of fianancial systems and policies preferred

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

  • Prior higher education experience or demonstrated interest in gender and sexuality studies/issues, highly desirable.

  • Prior experience with web maintenance, helpful.

  • Expertise with social media and marketing, strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Mac, preferred
