The Division of Student Life at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Program Assistant, Student Engagement and Leadership position. Under the direction of the Director, Student Engagement and Leadership, the Program Assistant, Student Engagement and Leadership, provides operational, programmatic, administrative and financial assistance and support to the functional areas of, but not limited to; student involvement, student leadership development, and The Rack. The Program Assistant assistant will focus the support for Student Engagement and Leadership administration, operations, and programs.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
SEL Operational and Programmatic Support
Provide support and continuous improvement efforts for all Student Involvement unit programs
Serves as co-coordinator for special projects: Student Lot programs and Toy Mountain.
Assist with the recognition process for all student organizations.
Facilitate the recognition process for new student organizations.
Manage the Student Organization Resource Center and provide supervision for the student manager of the resource center.
Responsible for creation and implementation for all recognition & incentive programs such as student organization spotlights and awards.
Develop ideas for marketing and promotions for programs and services.
Develop assessment tools to evaluate student development within core competencies and learning outcomes.
Inform and educate students on University policies and procedures.
Support and assist with all department initiatives such as Student Leadership Development events.
Serve as Co-Advisor for The Rack student organization.
Supervision of student office assistants for the Student Organization Resource center and The Rack.
Administrative, Clerical, Financial
Responsible for serving as a liaison with the business office and processing all financial transactions for all functions within Student Engagement and Leadership
Directly responsible with communicating with all student organization leaders and advisors on a weekly basis via the SEL Newsletter.
Administers Bureau of Finance (SGA) grants to various student organizations throughout the year. Works directly with SGA Treasurer to assist with grant application review and ensures all grants paid adhere to the financial policy of West Virginia University.
Provides administration of the Coca-Cola partnership and student organization events. Reviews applications and submits decision to which requests from student organization is to receive product.
Responsible for inventory control of The Rack through food orders through Paragon, Mountaineer Food Bank, and Kroger.
Duration: 8.5 Months
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent work experience.
Six (6) Months' Experience in the following areas:
Human and fiscal resource management.
Administrative and clerical functions.
Working with college students and providing exemplary customer service.
Student program planning and execution.
Ability to create partnership with campus and business partnerships.
Complex problem-solving skills.
Must be able to learn how to use and be proficient in all university systems such as Banner, WVUENGAGE, etc.
Must be able to thrive in fast-paced environment.
Must be efficient with all responsible.
Must be student-centric and advocate for student needs.
