Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary

UNC Kenan-Flagler's Student Teams Achieving Results (STAR) Program is an experiential learning program in which students tackle real business challenges for real companies for credit for over the spring semester. STAR selects students from an application process and forms diverse teams to build comprehensive and actionable strategies for corporations, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations seeking to strengthen their competitiveness. The STAR Program resides within UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School. STAR teams include 5-7 students from the fulltime MBA and undergraduate programs or from either the MBA@UNC or Executive MBA programs (i.e. Weekend, Evening, or Charlotte). STAR started in 2005 and is considered a well respected and outstanding experiential learning program at UNC and among other top MBA schools.

The Program Assistant is a key position within STAR, requiring problem solving, teamwork, thought leadership, and executive level communication skills in order to develop strategic recommendations for senior leadership. The Program Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director and works with the Program Manager and Director. The Program Assistant is responsible for maintaining key working relationships with corporate partners, enrolled STAR students, faculty advisors, and other key constituents across the business school. The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting with several key tasks within the STAR Program including improving and enhancing the program reputation through marketing efforts, financial management, events management, and establishing relationships with program.

The Program Assistant is responsible for providing dedicated support to the daily workings of all STAR related activities including planning, executing and developing events, managing team and event logistics, calendar management, budget management, database management and organization, front-line student and faculty supp ort and travel and expense reimbursement processes and policies. There's opportunity to develop program enhancements including benchmarking, analysis of student feedback, and analytical and strategic support to carry out new initiatives.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience in a University setting is preferred

  • Previous administrative experience is preferred
