This position is in the SAM (Science and Math) Learning Center at Seattle Central College (SCC). The Program Assistant provides technical and clerical assistance to the office as well as program support to students and the general public. As the front line person, the incumbent is expected to provide students, staff and the general public with timely, accurate, and reliable information regarding the activities related to Learning Support Network (LSN) services and the interpretation and application of department policies. This position reports directly to the Program Manager of the Learning Support Network. Some Saturday hours might be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide excellent customer service to students and other stakeholders

  • Opening the center and create a welcoming environment for students and community members at a high volume front desk, while exhibiting a professional and personal demeanor.

  • Serve as the primary contact for students and staff. Provide information regarding LSN/college policies and activities, answer general Learning Support inquiries by phone, email, and in person.

  • Provide clerical support to the operations of the learning center/LSN and maintain all documents related to front desk operations.

  • Prepare and distribute information related to the learning support activities, including correspondence, printed materials and promotional materials.

  • Screen and respond to student tutoring related inquiries that may not require the manager's attention.

  • Trouble shoot and problem solve, for the purpose of resolution, inquiries, challenging situations and/or complaints for referral to the program manager.

  • Help students to navigate the SCC website, AccuCampus and e-tutoring as well as other electronic resources.

  • Manage student or tutor meeting request with the program manager

  • Serve as a referral resource for students with various college processes relating to tutorial services and academic support

  • Participate in staff meetings and prepare minutes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities:

  • Associate degree in Education, Communication or similar AND

  • Two years of full time experience working in a professional front line/front desk position.

  • Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Evidence of successful work with diverse populations

  • Evidence of strong MS Office skills including Word and Excel as well as MS Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
