Job Summary:

Mercury Systems is seeking a motivated, Program Area Director (PAD) for the Sensor Systems, Secure Line of Business. The Line of Business is tasked with protecting mission-critical systems for our aerospace and defense applications. Our comprehensive physical security solutions, coupled with proven cybersecurity hardware technologies, offer world-class defense for high-value technology systems deployed in mission-critical applications.

This position reports to the Vice President of the Sensor Systems Business Unit. The Program Area Director for the Secure Line of Business will be responsible for leading a dynamic business area that is accountable for developing, integrating, sustaining, and modernizing mission capabilities that leverage the total capabilities of the broader Mercury business. This requires rapidly developing innovative solutions across the lifecycle that exceed our customer's mission requirements.

Job Responsibility:

The Program Area Director will manage a portfolio of programs more than $100m/year delivering performance measured against the mission KPIs and long term financial and business goals. The position is accountable for driving business AOP performance and growth, leading a team comprised of a matrixed workforce. The Program Area Director develops the roadmaps to achieve the business vision, executes our strategic plans and direction, leads change and improvement efforts, and focuses and motivates the program area teams to achieve established goals. The Program Area Director is also responsible for establishing and building strong domestic and international customers, partners, and subcontractor relationships to sustain the business.

The successful candidate will be a senior leader who is known and respected within defense and global markets, as well as the customer base of the program area. This person will be a role model of integrity, leadership excellence, vision, and collaboration and will successfully execute technically complex, highly competitive programs of significant scope. This person will need to manage experimental, development, sustainment, and services programs within the portfolio and stay current with evolving technology trends.

The position is ideally located in the Northeast.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or business-related field is required. Master's degree, M.S. or MBA preferred.

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in program management, preferably within the defense industry. Previous experience in a leadership role is essential.

  • Progressive leadership experience managing a broad and expansive portfolio of programs and full life-cycle program execution to meet customer and business requirements.

  • Experience with the C3I and ISR mission with background in naval surface, undersea, ground and airborne platforms, sensor and data processing frameworks, and associated technologies.

  • Experience and understanding of digital transformation technologies such as AI/ML, Agile/DevSecOps, Autonomy and/or Digital Engineering.

  • Strategic thinker with capacity to manage business complexity and focus the organization on the critical top priorities.

  • Experience leading collaboration across to fully leverage capability of business and support functions.

  • Experience integrating regulatory, customer, political and market information into effective business strategies and plans.

  • Successful experience developing and executing strategy for market and business growth.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain, and or restore strong customer, business, partner, and stakeholder relationships.

  • Successful experience managing change, building teams, developing leaders and mentoring others in a matrix structure.

  • Possesses technical acumen; conversant and credible in discussing technical matters.

  • Solid understanding of U.S. and International government procurement practices, prime contractor and subcontractor relationships, and decision points within the acquisition process.

  • Demonstrated success with customers and external partners in business development, negotiations, capture and program execution.

  • Program leadership, financial management: P&L experience of a significant organization, strong risk management and earned value management skills.

  • Executive Level ability to communicate, influence and motivate a high performing team.

  • Ability to operate effectively and creating bonds of trust and clear understanding of mutual interests.

  • Must be able to travel as much as 30% of the time.

  • U.S. Top Secret Clearance

  • PMP Certification preferred.
