This position serves as a Compliance Program Specialist under the direct supervision of the VISN Compliance Officer.

The Compliance Program Specialist, is responsible for compliance auditing of the VA Health Care System of Ohio's financial, medical and reimbursement data. Duties include but are not limited the following:
Performs audits for the evaluation of documentation of medical services provided and to ensure that all services documented are in compliance with established guidelines; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Insurance specific reimbursement, HIPPA, VA regulations, VA Directives and JCAHO standards
Utilizes software packages such as Microsoft products, VISTA, ProClarity, Access Data Bases, Corporate Data Bases, and any other software packages.
Reviews existing VHA policies, procedures and reports as well as OIG Medical Center and Congressional Reports relating to program auditing activities in order to provide management accurate data utilizing contemporary methodologies.
Performs special studies involving. financial, accounting, contractual, legal and regulatory issues and formulates recommendations concerning these areas.
Analyzes variations and trend data on a monthly/quarterly basis, performs objective assessments, and prioritizes identified problems, analyzing variances and recommending appropriate actions and,or alternatives including the development of educational programs as a means for quality improvement.
Develops appropriate training programs; rules and regulations, mandated program elements in order to resolve issues discovered during reviews and monitors.
Maintains required documentation such as Audit Plans, Results of Monitoring each plan, Medical Center Risk Assessments and Results of Prior Monitors and Audits for use by Upper Management.
Initiates Revenue program reviews or investigation of any issues of non-compliance as well as initiate, in concert with the CBIO, the implementation of appropriate corrective action plans.
Provides monthly status reports of audits currently being reviewed as well as providing updates concerning facility based monitors that have been developed and implemented as a result of approved annual audit plans.
