What we want

The Student Life Program Aide will support the training, facilitation, and assessment of the New Student Conference presentations for Summer 2024. They will contribute as a member of the Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention team by presenting at New Student Conference sessions on behalf of the team, as well as provide training and content knowledge feedback to student presenters.

What you need to know

Salary: $14/Hourly

Special Note: Should have strong public speaking skills and comfortability on a large stage speaking in front of 700+ students per session.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • One year of experience in higher education work or related specialty with a bachelor's degree

  • No experience required with a master's degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively task manage and work cooperatively with others

  • Strong interpersonal/organizational skills, willingness to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to related well to undergraduate students

  • Knowledge of health promotion and public health theory, models, and frameworks that guide the work

  • Strong public speaking skills

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Presentations, Workshops
  • Directly participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of health education, prevention education, and risk-reduction programming, in alignment with public-health oriented, evidence-based strategies that support the overall missions of Texas A&M University, Student Life, and Health Promotion. Contributes as a member of a larger Health Promotion team, to prevention programming around alcohol and other drug use, interpersonal violence prevention, sexual health, and work aligned with the eight dimensions of wellness. Works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to deliver presentations, workshops, and trainings on a variety of wellbeing topics.
  • Programming and Publications
  • Assists with designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs to meet the needs of the college population. Creates digital and print publications that provide information on a variety of wellbeing topics.
  • Content Knowledge
  • Remain current on health and wellbeing trends that apply to the collegiate population. Remain knowledgeable about sate and federal laws that impact the health and wellbeing of students, including Title IX, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and FERPA.
  • Assessment
  • Assist with creating, implementing, and evaluating assessments as directed by the Assistant Director of Health Promotion. This includes participation in developing assessment outcomes and tools, implementing assessment, interpreting and communicating findings, and maintaining documentation of assessment plans as they related to relevant programs and activities.
  • University/Division/Department Duties
  • Serves as an active representative on department, division, and university committees and task forces. Sustains positive working relationships with office and department stakeholders. Attends and actively engages in department and division meetings, trainings, and functions.
