The Chemical, Biological, and Bioengineering (CBBE) Department Chair is the academic and administrative leader of the Department. The CBBE Chair reports to the dean of the College of Engineering and is a member of the College's Leadership Team.

The CBBE department chair, working in collaboration with the CBBE faculty and staff, is responsible for the success, relevance, and continued progression of the Chemical, Biological, and Bioengineering Department and the competitiveness of its graduates. Ensuring the vibrancy, operations, synergistic collaboration, and competitiveness of the department; and engaging CBBE's constituents in strategic actions for the academic unit, are important responsibilities of the CBBE Chair.

The CBBE Department chair is also responsible for budget development, management and allocation; the assessment and accreditation of CBBE programs, and ensuring the relevance and execution of the instruction and research of the department. The CBBE Chair is also charged with promoting the Department through alumni, donor, and corporate engagement and ensuring the competitiveness of its graduates.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

North Carolina A & T is a public land grant high research activity university that enrolls over 13,300 students. The University is committed to dedicated teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service.

The College of Engineering (COE), with over 2,300 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program Computer Science. The College's focus is on cultivating leaders who excel in academics, innovation, and research; where the 5 research cluster areas of the COE are Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications and Complex Systems and Networks.

The Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bio- Engineering offers ABET-accredited Bachelors of Science programs in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biological Engineering, and offers Masters of Science programs in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering. The Department has 10 full-time faculty members in engineering, 3 staff members and 3 adjunct faculty members.

Major research includes the NSF Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, the NSF CREST Bioenergy Center, the NSF RED project "A Revolution in Engineering Education Motivated by Needs and Designs," a new Center for Biotechnology Research grant funded by the US Department of the Army, and a new project for Direct Air Capture and Conversion of CO2 funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications include PhD or equivalent terminal degree. Applicant must have a minimum of six years of demonstrated excellence in teaching and creative/research activities consistent with eligibility for appointment at the rank of professor and some administrative experience relevant to the position.
