Summary: The Department of Astronomy in the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks candidates for position at the tenure-track level. Applications at the associate professor level may be considered in exceptional cases.
Duties: The appointee will be expected to perform teaching, research and service duties in the Astronomy Department.
Classroom teaching and individual instruction and supervision of graduate and undergraduate thesis research is required. The appointee will participate in Department, College, campus and national level committees as appropriate.

Current departmental areas of expertise and interests include: the interstellar and intergalactic medium, stellar astrophysics, exoplanets, galaxies and active galactic nuclei, observational cosmology, computational astrophysics, plasma astrophysics, high energy/multi-messenger astrophysics; radio/sub-mm, IR/optical and X-ray observation; and instrumentation.
Faculty applicants are invited to take advantage of our Department facilities. We are currently partners in the WIYN 3.5m telescope on Kitt Peak (including the NEID exoplanet spectrograph) and in the 11m Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) in South Africa.
We are also a full institutional member in the SDSS IV consortium. Other facilities include the Washburn Laboratories instrumentation lab and the UW-Madison Center for High-Performance/High-Throughput Computing.
We welcome applicants from all areas of astrophysics. The position is open at the assistant professor level, however applications at the associate professor level will be considered in exceptional cases.
