Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is currently hiring a full time Professional Staff Nurse to support the Intensive Care Unit (ICU/4800) at our Oakland location. ICU- 4800 is a 14-bed critical care unit serving adult medical and surgical patients. A fast-paced acuity adaptable ICU, 4800 cares for all types of patients at Magee other than infants, ranging from those needing critical care interventions to those in stepdown condition; we work with a large number of post-surgical patients who are being seen for a variety of specialties, and we frequently partner with RNs from Labor & Delivery to provide care for critical antepartum and postpartum patients. The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Graduate Nurses with PCT experience are encouraged to apply. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Six months experience is required for the Professional Staff Nurse level.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.

  • Practices solid communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.

  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Minimum six months experience preferred. If a new nurse/graduate nurse- 6 months PCT experience required.

  • No degree preference- ASN, BSN, MSN all welcome!

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
