The Heart Catheterization/ interventional Radiology/Electrophysiology Lab is a specialty procedural department that is in the classification of critical care nursing and patient acuity. It involves direct catheterization to the vessels of the heart, implantations of pacemakers and ICD's, and percutaneous interventional procedures through radiology.
This role will directly assist the interventional cardiologist and radiologist, as well as, circulate the procedural room assisting in patient care during the procedure. This role is responsible for conscious sedation for the patient and assessment of the patient throughout the procedure, responsible for documentation of patient care, handing off sterile instruments, required (with proper shielding) to work around fluoroscopy (radiation).
This position will work as a casual employee with a minimum of 16 hours in a 6 week period, 7:00 am to 5:30pm, with a requirement to pick up at least one (1) holiday call need and the opportunity to pick up call for additional weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
The Cardiac Processing Unit is a specialized unit that prepares and recovers inpatient and outpatients regarding percutaneous procedures in the Cardiac Cath lab, Interventional Radiology Suite, and Electrophysiology Lab. Is involved in direct patient care regarding assessing and monitoring patient conditions, communicating with physicians regarding changes in condition, and educating patients on discharge instructions.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care.
The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care.
The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision.
To work as a perdiem Cath Lab/CPU nurse to fill in the staffing needs of the department. To circulate in Invasive heart/radiology procedures administering procedural medications, dropping sterile instruments, and providing direct patient care.
To administer sedation medications in the Computed Tomography (CT) procedures.
To assess and monitor patients in pre/post procedure settings with respect to vital signs, and access site presentation. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Minimum 1 year experience.

Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
