Professional Learning Specialist

The Professional Learning Specialist is directly responsible to the Director of Exceptional Student Education or designee and is responsible for providing professional development and instructional coaching support to teachers toward the goal of increased student learning.

The Professional Learning Specialist shall:

  • Improve student instruction through classroom visitation, observation, modeling, and coaching of research-based instructional practices.

  • Assist school and district staff in interpreting a variety of data and assessment results for the improvement of instructional practices.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum supports, including instructional programs, classroom materials, and physical adaptations correlating to standards based instruction.

  • Participate in eligibility, IEP, and manifestation determination meetings as appropriate.

  • Assist in gathering of data for Functional Behavior Assessments and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans as needed.

  • Coordinate and present relevant professional development and in areas of need identified by the Exceptional Student Education Division..

  • Collaborate with school and district staff to support effective program implementation for students with disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and functional supports.

  • Assist school and district staff in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

  • Assist the Exceptional Student Education Division with student and teacher projections based on school, student and program needs.

  • Prepare and submit reports as required by the Exceptional Student Education Division.

  • Attend appropriate and required workshops to enhance existing professional staff development foundational knowledge and skills.

  • Communicate in a timely and effective manner with parents, district staff, school staff, students, and all community stakeholders.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for a minimum of a T-4 (Bachelor's level) Georgia Educator Certificate.

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.

  • Recent participation at relevant district, state, and other professional development opportunities focusing on research-based instructional techniques and lesson planning.

  • Ability to work well with students and peers.

  • Working knowledge and awareness of Personalized Learning as defined by Henry County Schools.

  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.

  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.

  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.

  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.

  • Vision, hearing, written and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
