Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Geology or another related science field. Must possess a State of Florida Professional Geologist license and a minimum of three to five years of experience in groundwater modeling and/or evaluation of environmental impact, aquifer characterization, geological formations, or stratigraphic profiles are required.

Recruitment Notes

The Professional Geologist is in the Environmental Monitoring and Restoration Section of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources. The Professional Geologist performs technical oversight to a staff of hydrogeologists and/or environmental resources project supervisors with their reviews of complex cleanup cases to render appropriate cleanup decisions.

These reviews require the evaluation of environmental impact, aquifer characterization, geological formations, stratigraphic profiles, fate and transport models and statistical methods in furtherance of identifying potential chemical contamination, bacteria and pathogens or salt intrusion that could adversely affect Miami-Dade County's drinking water supply, public health, and the environment. The Professional Geologist will be tasked with certifying (by way of sign/seal) that sites meet the site rehabilitation requirements of Chapter 62-780, Florida Administrative Code and Chapter 24 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. Additionally, the position may require fiscal contract administration using FDEP funding for cleanup management of petroleum contaminated sites.

As senior staff members, the Professional Geologist will be responsible for conducting meetings with site owners and other applicable stakeholders that range from discussions on site cleanup requirements to ensuring and facilitating efficient site development and beneficial reuse processes. The Professional Geologist will assist their section manager with staff supervision of daily operations, including recruiting and hiring staff, training, and performance evaluations. Lastly, the Professional Geologists will also assist with monitoring and developing regulations, innovative technologies, and emerging trends in the assessment of petroleum, industrial, and solid waste contaminated sites, and will represent the RER when responding to public and governmental inquiries and participating in public educational seminars regarding technical and administrative departmental policies.
