Duties and Responsibilities
This position performs professional accounting work involving the independent application of accounting and auditing concepts, principles, theory, and technical skills in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), or other comprehensive basis of accounting. This position will independently perform accounting work that is highly specialized and requires the design and development of financial policies and procedures as well as the preparation of reports and analysis in accordance with applicable standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, practices, theories, and concepts.
Knowledge of state accounting system (FLAIR).
Knowledge of report distribution system (RDS).
Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
Ability to reconcile accounts.
Ability to utilize automated spreadsheet applications.
Ability to research and interpret accounting literature, rules and pronouncements.
Ability to prepare financial statements, supporting documents and schedules.
Ability to prepare financial reports.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments.
Skill in fiscal year-end processes.
Skill in Microsoft Office applications including Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing Florida's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for a state agency and all required forms or the preparation of financial statements for a private company.
Experience in the Florida Accounting and Information Resource system (FLAIR).
Experience reconciling agency funds and processing journal transfer corrections in FLAIR.
Experience assisting with the completion of Inter-Agency transfers (Form 3).
General Information
The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
