About the Role:

We're looking for a full time designer to launch features every week to improve the financial lives of hundreds of thousands of users across the US.

Upstart is the first lending platform to leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to price credit and automate the borrowing process. Credit is critical in terms of going to school, buying cars & houses or starting a business and yet only 45% of Americans have access to prime credit. Upstart is using AI/ML to expand access to credit for an underserved population and create an effortless online application tool.

As the first designer in Upstart's new Columbus office, you'll get to run the entire User Centered Design Process and build a Design Thinking culture.

What you'll be doing:

  • Be the lead designer on an agile team

  • Drive the design for Upstart's white label SaaS offering: Powered by Upstart

  • Take projects from ideas to launch following the User Centered Design Process

  • Understand our borrowers through user research to make our products effortless

  • Use Upstart's Design System and work with designers at HQ to extend the system

  • Leverage analytics and A/B testing to improve user experience and conversion rates

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers and compliance to deliver high-quality responsive features and products

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience designing and shipping high quality digital products

  • Strong portfolio showing User Centered Design Process

  • Expert in Sketch and a prototyping tool like Invision or Principle

  • Ability to communicate complex financial terms to users in a simple way

  • Can understand technical concepts (you don't need to write code, but you do need to work with and understand engineers and code limitations)

  • Experience leading user research, facilitating brainstorming sessions, and working on an agile team
