Position Summary:

All operations are conducted with an emphasis on safety and within the guidelines and requirements of ISO and 5-S / Lean production environments.

The primary goal of this position is to safely and efficiently produce high-quality products while meeting the established production schedule for catalog and bulk/custom coated plates to achieve production goals relative to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completion of weekly production work orders

  • Process documentation is maintained in the form of batch record sheets, reports and lab notebooks and the technician must contribute to and foster the development of a healthy cooperative environment

  • Management of raw materials and inventory in a kanban system

  • Work within our MRP system to issue materials to work orders, perform from-stock and return-to-stock transactions

  • Using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including a respirator (when required)

  • Basic equipment calibration and maintenance

  • Unpacking and set-up of base plates

  • Documenting the critical aspects of each production run

  • Accurately formulating bulk reagents following the established procedures

  • Using automated, semi-automated, and manual equipment to coat a variety of microwell plate types

  • Plate pouching after completion of the coating run

  • Over-packing of coated plates into boxes according to the specified configuration

  • Maintenance and stocking of laboratory supplies

  • Cleaning equipment following each production run

  • Completing metrology work orders as assigned

  • Other duties include cleaning, assembling and disassembling equipment, involvement in process development, occasional assistance in other departments such as the formulations lab and packaging.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Ability to work safely with various plate coating equipment, chemicals, and reagents

  • Ability to read and accurately follow Batch Record Sheets (BRSs) and Standard Operation Procedures

  • Basic mathematical skills, including a solid understanding of the metric system, unit conversions and basic calculations

  • Understand and perform molar and % composition (W/W and V/V) calculations

  • Accurate reporting of data and labor time to work orders and in laboratory notebooks

  • Punctual and dependable, consistently arriving to work on time and ready to work

  • Flexible work schedule when required

  • Good interpersonal skills for working effectively in a team environment

  • Ability to routinely lift 40-50 lbs

  • Ability to provide drum handling, large scale solids handling, and moving pallets

  • Ability to move 100L crocks full of water based solutions

  • Associates in this position will as part of their job activities generate or manage hazardous waste as defined by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency

  • Individuals in this position are required to receive initial hazardous waste training within the first 30 working days of assignment

  • The initial waste training shall include but not be limited to the following general categories: identifying hazardous and solid waste, hazardous waste management, recycling, treatment and disposal, emergency preparedness and record keeping and pollution prevention and waste reduction

  • Following initial training the Associate in this position will receive annual refresher training in the same topic field as listed above

  • Strong organizational skills

  • A desire to identify and implement continuous improvements

Position Summary: The Production Technician II will support more senior OS personnel in their efforts to provide efficient multi-step organic synthesis, purification and formulation at the small, medium and large scales to achieve production goals relative to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Key Responsibilities: * Cleaning, assembling and disassembling equipment and work spaces * Getting materials so others can complete weekly production work orders, although with experience, they will complete less complex work orders on their own * Using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including a respirator (when required) * Associates in this position will generate or manage hazardous waste as defined by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. They will provide the collection and Bulking of hazardous waste for the Rockford site * Process documentation is maintained in the form of batch record sheets, reports and lab notebooks * The technician must contribute to and foster the development of a healthy cooperative environment * With experience may formulate materials, operate the MAPD equipment, drying ovens and plate sealer to process No-Weigh™ type products * With experience may perform water and solvent washing of chromatography resins/gels * Participate on cross-functional project teams * Support large scale production by setting up, running and cleaning 10, 30, 50, 100 and 300 gallon reactors * Support medium scale production by setting up, running and cleaning glassware on the 1 Liter to 72 Liter reaction flask scale * Moderately heavy equipment such as drum carts, gas cylinders, balances and filled carboys * Occasionally assist other departments such as the formulations lab and packaging * Other projects / duties as assigned Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED * Mechanical aptitude * Ability to work with moisture sensitive materials * Ability to safely handle flammable solvents * Proficient in PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook * Ability to routinely lift 50-60 lbs * Individuals in this position are required to receive initial hazardous waste training within the first 30 working days of assignment * The initial waste training shall include but not be limited to the following general categories: identifying hazardous and solid waste, hazardous waste management, recycling, treatment and disposal, emergency preparedness and record keeping and pollution prevention and waste reduction * Following initial training the Associate in this position will receive annual refresher training in the same topic field as listed above * Experience with general laboratory techniques such as distillation, filtration, closed transfer, reaction chemistry, crystallization * Associates degree in Chemistry, or equivalent industrial experience preferred * B.S. in Chemistry/scientific discipline, preferably from an ACS (American Chemical Society) accredited program; advanced organic chemistry laboratory experience, preferred * 1-5 years experience working with organic chemistry in industry, preferred * Analysis techniques such as TLC, pH, GC, GCMS, NMR, IR, preferred * A thorough understanding of chemistry at the undergraduate level, preferred * Experience with rotary evaporators, vacuum pumps/ovens and small/large scale glassware, preferred * Capable of learning other applications, such as Visio, Minitab, MRP, etc., as needed This position has not been approved for Relocation Assistance.
