1st shift: M-F 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Accustomed to working in a chemical manufacturing environment? Do you have a reputation for being a process specialist coupled with a mechanical aptitude? Does your keen ability allow you to multi-task while being mindful of safety protocols? DSM Biomedical is looking for a Production Technician II to join our growing team in Exton.

The Challenge:

The Production Tech II assists manufacturing personnel in a wide variety of operations primarily cleaning of all reactors and ancillary equipment and including assisting during synthesis of DSM Biomedical products.

The Position

  • Responsible for cleaning all reactors, pressure pots, drums and other ancillary equipment that are needed for the synthesis of DSM Biomedical products.

  • Provides sifting, packaging, extruding support as required.

  • Records the amounts of cleaning solvents used in the Material Log Sheet in the warehouse after cleaning.

  • Maintains a good housekeeping in the manufacturing area and equipment.

  • Responsible for revising current cleaning procedures when needed.

  • Maintains labor posting and timekeeping requirements in designated system on a daily basis.

  • Reports any observed unsafe equipment, condition or practice immediately to a supervisor, management or member of the Safety Committee.

  • Adheres to DSM Quality System procedures and the ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.

  • Assists in the repair and preventative maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

  • Assists the Production Chemist in managing the disposal of Hazardous Waste that is generated daily and takes all the required raw materials for the product to be made from the warehouse.

  • Assists the Production Chemist in weighing and dispensing the required raw materials for the synthesis and making sure that the reactor and ancillary equipment are clean and ready for use.

  • Documents manufacturing operations following DSM quality system procedures.

  • As assigned and properly trained; perform a combination of tasks necessary to ensure hazardous materials are properly handled, classified and stored. Perform duties necessary to characterize and profile waste in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. This includes:

  • Characterize waste and apply proper waste codes and labels

  • Review manifests for any off site shipments; assist transporter during shipment of waste

  • Maintain good housekeeping at hazardous material storage areas and perform weekly inspections of these areas.

  • Respond to spills of hazardous material as directed.

The Ideal

  • HS Graduate

  • Requires knowledge of learned routines, procedures, practice and more complex skills. Training in certain procedures or equipment required.


  • 2 years relevant experience in a chemical or industrial manufacturing facility/plant.


  • Prefer experience with general manufacturing processes and demonstrated ability to learn, and work safely.

  • Must possess basic understanding of chemical safety and hygiene.

  • Good documentation and communication skills required.

  • Aptitude and ability to follow written technical instructions.

  • Ability to lift and handle weights up to 50 pounds

  • Previous experience driving a forklift desirable.

  • Punctual, self-starter, dependable and detail-oriented.

  • Proficient using MS Word, Excel and Outlook

In the role of Manufacturing Technician II, you will: * Performs all operations within assigned manufacturing department, non-controlled and controlled environment areas in accordance with DSM Standard Operation Procedures and all safety requirements as assigned. Because the end use of our products affects patient safety, there is a need to be knowledgeable in the quality system requirements and be reasonably well-versed in technical aspects of the process. Good judgment and decision making is imperative. * Takes initiative to multi-task with deadlines, flexible can-do attitude, and ability to adjust workload to meet varying schedules. * Performs operations outside own department when needed with minimal supervision. * Handling of chemicals and solvents may be required. * Keeps detailed, accurate, and legible paper and computerized records of production activities following DSM/GMP guidelines. * Advises Group Lead/and or Supervisor of perceived problems with processes, machinery, or product quality and actively participates in developing improvements. * Assures product quality through close attention to detail, inspection methods, and in-process testing as required. * Performs other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Supervisor. * Identifies problem components, potential interactions between them and offers suggestions for resolution and improvements. * Works with R&D, Engineering and other DSM groups as assigned. * Deals with intermediate complexity problems that must be broken down to manageable pieces. * Interacts and collaborates with others, employing a communication style appropriate to the person or audience. What we want to see in you: * Two-year technical degree or equivalent years of experience in related fields. * Ideally 2 years of experience, preferably in Medical Device manufacturing or related industry * Strong oral and written communication skills to provide information to others by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. * Strong mechanical or electrical aptitude. * Self-starter, ability to work independently on projects as required. * Proficient in the use of MSOffice, Word and Excel. * Knowledge and experience working with machinery, tooling for products/processes in a medical device environment. * Ability to operate various equipment and hand tool in assigned areas with no supervision.
