Principal Function: The Production Supervisor, in collaboration with the Technical Coordinator, brings to life the creative visions set forth by Program Developers by planning out and executing production needs for Conner Prairie's programs, events and festivals throughout the year. This working supervisory role will both lead and work hand-in-hand with a seasonal production crew to successfully deliver events and programs through setup, operation and tear down.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides supervision for team of part-time Production Assistants and seasonal Production Crew.

  • Plans and coordinates onsite logistics for festivals and select public programs, including coordinating internal teams, procuring rental items and contracting with vendors and performers.

  • Plans and schedules setup and tear down of any sets, props, decorations, scenes, games, stages or other attractions needed for a program or event.

  • Oversees and monitors all aspects of training as it relates to event production including, but not limited to safety, job-specific skills, and scream-team roles and techniques.

  • Recruits Production Crew and schedules accordingly for festivals and programs.

  • Schedules Conner Prairie staff across divisions as programmatic support to ensure large programs can be appropriately staffed.

  • Monitors sets, props, decorations, etc. and troubleshoots and/or repairs items as needed.

  • Provides operational support for community theater partnerships and productions.

  • Serves on cross-functional, internal project teams as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Production Assistants and Production Crew. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in event planning, production management, stage management, experience design or other related field is desired; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with technical equipment in a live production is required. Previous supervisory experience is required. Previous experience working in the museum, theater and/or special event industry is desired.

Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired:

  • Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, SketchUp and Google G Suite is desired.

  • The ability to multi-task and project manage several events at one time in a fast-paced environment is required.

  • A demonstrated knowledge of audio and lighting systems is desired.

  • The ability to use basic tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.). Familiarity with power tools (drills, saws, etc.) is desired.

  • The ability to prepare and maintain a financial budget is desired.

  • The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.

  • The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions and environments. The employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will frequently work in high, precarious places. The employee will occasionally work near fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

While the officers of Conner Prairie are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position will require work beyond these hours and on the weekends when open for special events. It also may require occasional domestic travel. Thus, a valid driver's license is desired.
