Job Description:
3M is seeking a Production Operator for the 3M Oral Care Division located in Monrovia, CA. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Production Operator will perform simple manual tasks such as staging, rework, assembly, order pulling, bin replenishment, packaging, stretching, or use of hand or bench tools at a steady pace. Use simple judgment to comply with standards. Operate manual, semi-auto bench-top machinery or equipment with minimal set-up duties required. Make simple changes on repetitive jobs involving such activities as recognition and selection of visual defects. Identifies equipment malfunction and reports problems to management.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operates manual or semi-auto equipment, assembles, stages, rework, order pulling, bin replenishment, packages, and load/unloads

  • Performs in-process inspection of parts produced complying with MOD and specification requirements. Separates defective parts and reports to management

  • Follows all department and corporate procedures regarding safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory, etc.

  • Must meet quality and productivity standards as established by the department

  • May be required to assist in basic training of co-workers on an as-needed basis

  • Must participate in continuous improvement activities (Kaizen, tier review process)

  • Must be able to use computer systems as appropriate within department to perform job functions

  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the position as described in the Functional Job Analysis

  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required by supervision

  • Read and understand basic drawings/specifications

This position may require:

  • Weekend work

  • Overtime

  • Holidays as needed

  • Short notice shift coverage

  • Specific hours/shifts (1st, 2nd 3rd shifts)

  • Frequent physical demands:

  • Repetitive motion of arms/hands

  • Prolonged Standing, Bend/Twist/Stoop

  • Overhead Work/Reach about shoulder level

  • Lifting/Carrying 11-50 lbs

  • Operate or work near moving machinery

  • Color and visual perception

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy

  • Good manual dexterity

  • Experience using precision measuring instruments

  • Good reading, writing and oral communication skills

  • Basic math and computer skills

Location: Monrovia, CA

Relocation: Is not authorized

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Other duties may be assigned as needed. Employees must meet all customer/company quality expectations and/or requirements in order to ensure product integrity. This occupation requires the application of protective prime and finish coatings and/or mat finishes to parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies made of plastic, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, using brush and spray-painting techniques and equipment. Sets up, operates and maintains spray guns, pressure pots and oilier painting equipment. Determines correct preparation of surfaces to be' coated, to insure proper adhesion of the paint; determines from specifications, blueprints or work orders the type and color of primes, paint, protective coatings and/or solution required. Mixes and thins paint to proper consistency. Applies protective prime and finish gloss coatings to interior and exterior of parts, subassemblies and assemblies, and works to close tolerances in the application of finished surface coats. Locates, by use of customer specifications, blueprints and simple arithmetic, color break areas, decals and/or insignias and paints or mounts such items. Performs difficult rework, final touchup, feathering, shading and blending by the use of spray gun and brush. May perform such work incident to work described above, such as touchup, patching,masking, puttying, sanding, priming, sealing and surfacing. Required Skills & Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required. Completion of a union, military or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job training. To set up and operate various types and sizes of spray guns, pressure pots, conveyors, and other painting equipment to use references to obtain easily identified information, to use simple arithmetic, including decimals and fractions Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and management Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form Ability to read and write in English at a 12th grade level Ability to perform basic math functions at a 12th grade level Good attendance and a positive attitude with a team player approach Four (4) years experience as a journey-level painter in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, both interior and exterior. Aerospace experience preferred. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
