Service Ops Support Manager in Training (SOSMIT)

CarMax offers extensive training for individuals placed into the SOSMIT Program. Training consists of many components that enable the Trainee to learn the foundation of CarMax's Service Operations Department. To ensure success, assessments are conducted throughout the training program to measure each participant's progress. Successful completion of the training program is required to be placed into a management position

General Summary:

The Service Operations Support Manager in Training is accountable for performing the job duties and responsibilities below, which primarily involve managing and leading associates.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead associates to achieve production targets, maintain and control inventory levels, and

provide exceptional customer service.

  • Communicate expectations and provide feedback to associates

  • Participate and make recommendations in the screening/hiring and development of associates

  • Maintain key performance measures

  • Learn, participate and execute continuous improvement efforts

  • Assist with the development and execution of production plans

  • Ensure proper inventory levels of all materials and equipment including, but not limited to

personal protective equipment, tools, and chemicals using the supply ordering system

  • Provide support to sales, business office and purchasing teams when needed

  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of risk management including the administration of loss

prevention, facility maintenance, environmental, health, and safety guidelines

  • Handle customer concerns in a quick, efficient, and friendly manner

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Position Requirements

Job Specifications:

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years management experience in a complex, fast paced environment

  • Work through and manage a team to achieve production goals

  • Read, interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records

  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task

  • Ability to train out of market for 6 months required

  • Ability to relocate within the region after training is required

  • Speak and listen effectively in dealing with customers/associates, both in person and over the phone

  • Demonstrate above average computer skills with a variety of common and proprietary software

  • Satisfactory completion of MDP is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work environment; may include working in noisy situations and/or inclement weather conditions.

  • Requires walking or standing for extended periods of time.

  • Variety of work schedules with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holiday, and 12-hour days.

  • Occasional travel to other work locations

  • Follow all CarMax, state and federal policies, rules and regulations, including, but not limited to: O.S.H.A., and EPA, Personal Protective Equipment, proper waste disposal in required areas, attendance, Asset Protection, Integrity and Standards of Professional Appearance

This Production Manager will work the project teams to evaluate all production opportunities that will expand the prefabrication initiative for every project. The Production Manager plans, directs, and coordinates prefabricated and prepackaged systems from CAD, field details, and or vendors through final delivery to the jobsite and will coordinate shipping of manufactured materials with the shipping department. The objective of this position is to maximize our potential for prefabrication and prepackaging to help the company realize a profit that meets or exceeds expectations by reducing production costs and at the same time increase overall productivity; and to be part of the project team to determine if work is more beneficial to manufacture or to build on site. QUALIFICATIONS To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualified candidate must be a high-energy, self-starter with a strong work ethic. A whatever- it-takes attitude is a must. This individual, motivated by a competitive industry, needs to be results, detail, and team-oriented. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Collaborates with project team at project turnover meetings to evaluate all production opportunities * Previews contract drawings to ensure long lead items have the submittal and ordering process started * Coordinates with project team at project turnover meeting to determine what items from vendors need to be brought to our facility to be prepackaged. * Works with Project Managers and Operations group to ensure proper hours are allocated to production per outcome of the turnover meeting. * Evaluates project schedules and determine lead times required to assure that manufactured items are available when needed on project * Reviews spool sheets with field and determine "cut locations" based on projects ability to transport and receive fabricated material * Works with trade superintendents, project managers, detailing and purchasing to preorder materials needed * Works with project foreman, and or superintendent on delivery dates and communicate any schedule slip. * Manages inventory items to be sure production operation is stocked for smooth operation. * Coordinates with shipping department to coordinate receipt, packaging, and shipping schedules of materials * Reinforces established QA/QC standards and inspect manufactured items for conformance prior to shipment. * Cross trains production employees to be able to perform duties from all trades to maintain constant crew size in work area. * Except for welding certification insures that all specialty equipment used for production has at least 2 people trained to operate * Maintains certified welders by establishing an "in house" welding certification program for the field to keep flow intact due to layoffs or illness. * Performs regular QA/QC inspection on manufactured items coming into Production EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and/or CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS * Minimum five years of experience in Plumbing, Pipefitting, Welding, or related trade. * Must be well organized with ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. * Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. * Must possess basic computer skills MS Word, Outlook, Excel.
