Job Description

3-year clinical residency program with a Master of Science (MS) degree in Production Management Medicine. The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, invites applications from qualified individuals for a 3-year clinical residency in Production Management Medicine designed to fulfill requirements for certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Food Animal) or the American College of Theriogenologist.

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree. Previous practice experience (e.g., Internship, private practice) with food animals, clinical teaching experience, demonstrated commitment to service, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. The position commitments are divided with two-thirds attributed to applied clinical practice/training in food animal medicine and surgery, including production medicine, and one-third attributed to research/academic activities.

Clinical service will primarily occur in the Food Animal Field Services unit of the Production Management Medicine Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including individual patient management, herd health management, and consultation with clients in the local practice area. Additional responsibility will include participation in the emergency service with other clinicians - mentored by senior faculty initially and then working independently as the program progresses. The candidate will be able to participate in one 3-week rotation within the College of Veterinary Medicine as well as one external 3-week rotation of their choosing per year.

The candidate will be expected to participate in didactic and laboratory instruction in the DVM curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to complete their Master's thesis program at the end of the 3 years and to participate in continuing education and outreach programs of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The expected starting date for the position is August 1st, 2024. Required Qualifications
