Maintenance Manager/Maintenance Engineering Senior Resource (L08- L09)

The Maintenance Manager leads a maintenance department that includes front line supervisors and a team of mechanics. She or he is responsible for people and team development, motivating the team and ensuring quality performance. Responsibilities include cost efficiency, continuous improvement on processes, service, and safety for an entire business unit across all shifts. This role will also include achieving site performance for uptime, equipment reliability, overall equipment effectiveness, and building/grounds maintenance. This role will also coach team members to utilize the processes and facilitate problem solving on the floor.


Major Tasks, Accountabilities and

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that front line supervisors and teams within the business unit are developed and held accountable for achieving individual, team and business unit goals

  • Develop team to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals

  • Deliver effective change leadership while driving business changes and minimizing people impact

  • Builds people capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training, and communication for front-line hourly and salaried personnel

  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to assist team to solve operational issues

  • Motivate and hold team members accountable to achieve plan goals

  • Organize and facilitate work team meetings (examples: pre-shift, roundtables, etc.)

  • Work closely with suppliers and internal customers to deliver expected results

  • Administer policies and procedures

  • Regular and predictable attendance at the work site

  • Initiate and implement projects

  • Conduct presentations and formal training programs

  • Seek out and implement best practices

  • Solve daily operational issues

  • This role requires regular presence on the plant floor

  • This role occasionally requires lifting up to 40 lbs.

  • This role requires occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow

  • This role may operate forklift and manufacturing equipment occasionally

  • This role may require off-shift and weekend work

  • This role may require some travel (less than 5%)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Preferably in engineering, business, operations management, or similar field

  • Lean Six Sigma Experience preferred, demonstrated by successful completion of a major improvement project.

  • A minimum of 5 years of operations maintenance experience preferred

  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience preferred

  • Ability to think quickly, take initiative, think creatively and challenge team to do the same

  • Must possess strong skills in project management

  • Ability to work in an unstructured environment while making decisions quickly

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Ability to lead a team-based approach to decision making

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others

  • Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, and team building skills

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Manage and maintain buildings, grounds, infrastructure and equipment. Supervise a team of maintenance technicians. Execute a maintenance strategy that promotes efficient optimal operations. Provide operational support and implement company safety strategies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Manage and maintain site asset base, including building and grounds, utility infrastructure, process and packaging systems, and support areas. * Carry out maintenance strategy to promote efficient and cost-effective operations. Plan and schedule for maintenance activities and all predictive, preventative and breakdown maintenance. Fully implement computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Maintain technical stores and supplies * Manage site repair and maintenance budget. Perform and track expenditures on a monthly basis with appropriate controls. Order goods/services. Issue purchase orders, approve and reconcile invoices. Lead the annual budgeting effort. * Recruit, manage, train, develop and support/coach a team of technicians. Promote a productive, quality of work/life environment. Arrange technician schedules. Implement opportunities to further develop and expand technician skills/knowledge. Provide and document training. Communicate regularly, providing updates of company news and strategies. Provide hands-on support as required. * Tactically implement company safety strategies, safe work practices/programs for food safety, process safety, environmental safety and personnel safety. Process safety for ammonia refrigeration. Ensure GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), HACCP for food safety. Audit and update safety programs as required. * Conduct start to finish project management, including scope, budget and cash flow forecast, critical path milestone schedule, assembly/management of resources/team, delivery method and commercial arrangements, documentation coordination, tracking and reporting, key stakeholder startup plan, capitalize assets as required and assemble record documentation and close out. * Provide guidance and support in daily operations, including task planning and coordination, and asset protection. * Promote efficient manufacturing by working as a key member of factory leadership team and functioning as a critical participant in cross-functional teams * Additional responsibilities as assigned or necessary. Educational and Job Experience Requirements Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Chemical, or Process Engineering; or similar related field, plus: * Minimum of five (5) years to ten (10) of experience in maintenance–related work in manufacturing or production facilities. * Minimum of five (5) years of prior management or supervisory experience. Job-related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Strong working knowledge of technical and industry building/grounds and utility infrastructure, including: * Utility Systems: Steam and condensate; Water and wastewater; Compressed air. * Electrical Building Systems : Electrical (power/distribution, lighting, fire alarm, communications, network, phone, security) and Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing/domestic water, fire sprinklers). * Electrical & Controls: Motor control centers/drives; Programmable logic controllers (PLC); Human machine interfaces (HMI) and other instrumentation. * Maintenance Systems : P redictive, preventative and breakdown maintenance ; C omputerized maintenance management system ( CMMS ); S tores and supplies . * Ammonia Refrigeration: Basic system operation and major unit operations; Third party execution of maintenance; process safety. * Core knowledge, experience, and skill in construction, tooling, crafts, carpentry, building and household maintenance, landscape, light industrial, and janitorial functions. Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills. * Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical controls, failures and panels; and power distribution; effectively and efficiently clearing faults, shorts, interference. Ability to edit PLC programs and troubleshoot electronic control circuits. Working familiarity and effective usage with the NEC Handbook. Strong ability and skill to demonstrate analog loop calibration and instrumentation calibration. * Strong ability to read electrical blueprints, schematic drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram - P&ID and understand interlocks, sequencing, and reference to equipment manuals and related materials. * Strong experience of inspections, including health, safety, with demonstrated ability to foster and maintain a quality of safety and non-hazardous work environment. Current knowledge of Environmental, Health, & Safety, including general OSHA/personnel safety and Personal protective equipment. * Strong working knowledge of meat process and packaging systems, including specialized process equipment and basic food systems (conveyors, liquid systems, etc.) * Proficient (intermediate to advanced) with Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Auto Cad or equivalent. * Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to plan/carry out the plan, develop contingency plans, mitigate risks and work with established master plans. Able to proactively communicate and ensure alignment. * Solid financial budgeting and analysis skills, including forecasting. Command of basic accounting. * Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with proficiency in English, written and verbal. * Solid management, supervisory and organizational skills. * Strong interpersonal/communication skills, with the ability to partner/collaborate in a highly effective manner with a variety of internal/external customers (internal departments/groups, vendors/contractors, local/state officials, etc.). * Ability to build strong, effective internal/external work relationships. * Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills. * Strong conflict management skills with the ability to motivate, persuade, and inspire others. * Excellent ability to work in a timely, safe manner while keeping downtime to a minimum. * Able to perform well in a fast paced, frequently high pressured environment, where internal/external customer demands are expected and routine. Required Licenses/Certifications Additional/Preferred * Food manufacturing or beverage industry experience. * Hazmat certification. * Emergency responder certification. Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions The essential functions of the job and working conditions requires the individual to sit, walk, stand, stoop, bend, reach, crawl, lift, and usage of a computer. The job requires the individual to work in a light to moderate noise environment, and/or up to a high level of noise environment that requires mandated personal protective equipment. Working environment may include but is not limited to: the donning, wearing, and usage of hairnets, smocks, coats, gloves, boots, glasses, and hard hats. The position may be exposed to extreme climate (e.g. hot, dry, cold, and wet) conditions; may potentially be exposed to allergens and will work in and around hazardous energy (i.e.: electricity, steam /condensate, etc.) and toxic chemicals (ammonia, Freon, etc.). The position is required to attend workplace safety and accident prevention training and emergency responder training. The position is required to be certified in forklift driving.
