Job Summary:

Supervises and coordinates daily operation of production shift with responsibility for achieving maximum quality and cost effectiveness in an on-time and efficient manner. Actively participates in all areas of employment, performance evaluations, associate relations, and associate development while promoting total employee involvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a safe work place is provided for all employees; frequently inspects department for safety compliance. Completes accident reports and schedules appropriate follow-up reviews; identifies accidents related to operator/machine error and initiates necessary training to prevent future accidents.

  • Supervises the activities of production associates to achieve objectives with regard to quality, cost and time. Evaluates the performance of associates and completes necessary reports. Recommends merit increases and training/development needs.

  • Reviews daily and weekly shipping schedules and production capabilities to assure all deadlines are met. Checks running orders/query dispatch lists to determine schedule priorities. Coordinates and expedites hot parts and assigns rework.

  • Inspects and monitors production quality and equipment. Ensures quality procedures/practices are applied to the process, tooling, and equipment to achieve expected quality improvements.

  • Supervises the utilization of materials to assure an appropriate amount of parts are available to maintain smooth production flow; identifies wasteful practices and methods; reports any problems/concerns with viable solutions to the Manager, Production; and, reports suggestions recommended by associates for procedure change, etc.

  • Promotes and supports the company's efforts in associate involvement concepts, and "open door" communications through the development and or implementation of various programs.

  • Promotes commitment to quality through attitude, behavior, communication, and development/implementation of programs and activities.

  • Communicates/updates shift management of daily problems and concerns, identifying areas needing attention to ensure the continuity of the operation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Maintains close contact with the M.E.Group to develop and maintain gauges, fixtures and SOEs.

  • Works with D.E. Group to incorporate new product development and improvements. Investigates the Root Cause of defects and scrap, implementing corrective action.

  • Work requires periodic stooping/bending and frequent walking/standing throughout day.

  • Requires occasional lifting of objects less than 25 pounds as well as occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds.

  • May on occasion require lifting, with assistance, of objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds.

  • Work involves activities that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, welders or vehicles.

  • Requires use of protective clothing.

Essential Job Functions * Lead a group of materials, production, and shipping personnel to address the following at the MDI board at least once a day: * Units in production that have a material or manufacturing issue – dead on the line. * Units in production that require verification of ESD for the customer. * Units complete in production, but missing accessory or individual unit * Take requests from the field for date improvement. Add to the MDI board if necessary. * Take requests from the field for ship date verification * Take requests from the Change Order group to verify if a change order can be done * Verify the position of the order in the schedule * Determine what material cannot be stopped or reused. * Determine how much of a delay will result from the change. * Tell the Change Order group if the request can be honored and what should be the new ESD. * Track down units that the customer said he never received (but the plant shows shipped) * Track down shipping information (BOL and transporter) requested by the customer. * Work with the Master Scheduler to change ESDs based on SSD reschedules in the factory. * Work with Logistics to change ESDs and shipping instructions based on truckload planning, requests for dedicated truck, requests for team drivers, and requests for air freight, and requests for partials (units without accessories, or part of the unit order) * Manage the at-risk notification system once the production lines are settled down and ESDs are more reliable. * Work the backlog of final finisher units. * Manage communication with sales offices with regards to customer orders, responding to inquiries for order status * Verify all order lines and prepare order reports on a daily basis * Monitor and evaluate order issues * Evaluate weekly metrics and analyze opportunities for continuous improvement project Education, Experience, & Skills * Expertise in lean philosophy and application of tools to lead high performance work teams. * HVAC manufacturing experience is a plus. * Exceptional leadership, motivational, and project management skills with the ability to drive project-specific issues and goals to closure. * Ability to integrate business, manufacturing, and technical elements. * Good analytical skills, demonstrated by both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and decision making for basic problem solving. * Six Sigma/Operational Excellence certification, equivalent experience leading one, or more major process development projects from concept to production using Six Sigma/Operational Excellence methodologies. * Must possess clear thought process of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions using Lean/Operational Excellence/Operational Excellence methodologies. * Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to enhance a team environment, including development of team-oriented managers and supervisors. * Able to make timely decision in stressful situations. * Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management. * Good understanding of consumer products, high volume lean manufacturing, and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes. * Leads Authentically * Builds Talent and Capability * Coaches for Performance * Creates external awareness * Thinks and acts strategically * Delivers business results Physical Requirements * Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal company and external associates, both written and orally, including the telephone.
