Description

Purpose of Position:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Manufacturing Team Lead for a group of associates. Responsible for work assignments that support an effective lean operation conforming to standardized work procedures, identifying improvement opportunities, and working with associates and management to solve operational work flow problems. General duties may include picking, assembling, and packaging. Machine set-up and equipment operation required, along with trouble-shooting, small repairs, and some maintenance of complex and/or high-speed equipment.

Hours are Monday-Thursday 3:00 PM-1:30 AM. Overtime may be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to communicate and train associates on proper use of equipment and safety policies and ensure proper PPE (personal protective equipment) is available for each employee.

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts in support of lean processes and lead problem solving teams or kaizen events.

  • Periodically review work and assess conformity to standard work and critical to quality procedures.

  • Resolve schedule problems throughout the day by closely coordinating with necessary departments.

  • Ensure appropriate controls (KPI's) and visual management tools are in place and up to date for effective operations within area (mini-factory) of responsibility.

  • Understand daily expectations of the business and assist area manager in assigning work to team members which prioritizes the workload and equipment schedule to meet both internal and external customer demand.

  • Responsible for order management. Provides information to appropriate personnel, including the Area Manager, regarding needed changes and adjustments.

  • Able to recognize points of failure in the flow of production and drive to implement countermeasures, escalate or recommend solutions

  • Effectively communicate with managers, engineers, technicians and business unit as required.

  • Assist area manager in the training of new associates.

  • Able to perform and/or train others to proficiently perform work assignments and help area manager to establish a depth at the area of responsibility.

  • Provide performance feedback to area manager on team members.

  • Assist area manager in planning OT hours and maintaining attendance logs.

  • Apply job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of difficult tasks.

  • Use scheduling techniques to achieve increased flexibility, floor space and turnaround time by reducing work-in-process inventory and overall lead times.

  • Cross-train others as needed to ensure back-ups are available and ready when needed.

  • Fill in as needed for absences in the following areas: Product assembly, picking and packaging. Perform machine set-up and operation of equipment. Trouble-shoot, perform small repairs and some maintenance of complex and/or high speed machines/processes.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • HS diploma/GED or equivalent required

  • Minimum 1 year of leadership experience

  • 3 years experience in a production environment preferred

  • Mechanical experience preferred

Skills:

  • Possess basic reading, writing, and math skills (including adding, subtracting, calculating. percentages, converting minutes to hours, and performing basic Algebra).

  • Possess necessary computer skills to utilize and maintain required manufacturing software systems.

  • Possess ability to resolve minor problems, recognize normal and unusual situations.

  • Some areas will require the ability to work with manual and/or power equipment.

  • Possess proven mechanical ability or aptitude.

  • Demonstrate strong multitasking skills.

  • Must be quality conscious: Accuracy and attention to detail required.

  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.

This function is an internal supplier for our assembly areas. The position will work 2nd shift. Principal Accountabilities: The position will be measured as follows: Attendance: follows attendance guidelines, rarely absent or late, pre-schedules and pre-approves absences Safety: Follows safety & housekeeping standards and procedures, uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), looks after the safety of others. Quality: Follows standard work procedures, self acknowledges and corrects mistakes, works to avoid errors and get it right the first time. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Understands proper use and care of all gages and inspection equipment used in the cell used to verify conformance of work piece to specifications. Productivity: Ability to meet or exceed productivity goals, manages time wisely, stays on task requiring little supervision to get the job done. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Machine Operation: Selects, aligns, & secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as CNC mills and CNC lathes. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. Adjusts machine controls, cutting tools, or control media as required. Understands machine M&G codes, and can recover from machine alarms without damaging equipment, tools, or fixtures. Understands CNC machine programs. Ability to understand/explain all machine moves within such programs. This includes thorough knowledge of all M and G codes. Ability to utilize program knowledge in order to safely perform rework of parts as needed. Other: * The position will interact with co-workers in the same machining cell. * The position will interact with a "Team Coordinator" which is the subject matter expert on the machining cell. * The position will take instruction for the Team Leader * The position will interact with Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers and Quality Engineers, Lean Specialists and Maintenance personnel as appropriate. Position Qualifications: Required Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-year certificate in Machining or Advanced Manufacturing from college or technical school or Associate Tool & Die Degree preferred. Required Skills or traits for the position: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret prints, read gauges and convert units from standard to metric. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
