As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts you will assist in the development to production transition activities for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the test and production for components and subsystems integrated on rocket launch vehicles and spacecraft. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the floor in assembly and installation, compliance to engineering requirements, discrepancy resolution, and component acceptance testing

  • Drive to root cause, and recommend corrective and preventative actions

  • Perform a hands-on engineering and liaison role between our design team, our operations team, and our manufacturing customers.

  • Authorize in-build redlines and recommend changes to the Design and Development team to improve the design

  • Sustainment of production and fielded vehicle design

  • Establish appropriate manufacturing, and supplier controls to support engineering handoff to operations

  • Assist quality team with supplier capability assessments, troubleshooting investigations, and First Article Inspection support

  • Lead projects to eliminate waste, reduce time-to-iteration, and improve outcomes

  • Conduct tests, interpret data, document and communicate results

  • Assist with design and implementation of support equipment, test racks or equipment and build tooling

  • Define process architecture, execution, and improvements

  • Structural:

  • Perform detailed stress and equivalent strength analysis to substantiate discrepancy resolution

  • Mechanical:

  • Provide expertise in pressurized and flowing systems

  • Provide support and troubleshooting expertise for mechanical and pressurized systems

  • Electrical:

  • Diagnose and provide resolution for issues related to software, firmware, or electrical hardware

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering or physics discipline

  • 5+ years' experience in engineering design, test, production or similar

  • Structural:

  • Experience with stress analysis of metallic and composite structures

  • Experience with primary structure design, both bonded and mechanically-fastened

  • Experience with finite element analysis and modeling tools, such Ansys, HyperMesh, Femap, or similar

  • Familiarity with Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Mechanical:

  • Hands on experience working with hydraulic components including fittings, valves, pumps, actuators, and high voltage equipment

  • Experience with pneumatic or hydraulic system or component design

  • Hands on experience with pressurized systems and components

  • Familiarity with best practices regarding safety, the use of pressurized systems, and cleanliness

  • Familiarity with principles and hazards of safe operation of high pressure systems

  • Familiarity with a cleanroom environment and standard cleanroom practices

  • Familiarity with Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)


  • Electrical:

  • Working knowledge of cable/ harnessing, circuit board fabrication, assembly and repair, or avionics box builds

  • Familiarity with IPC and other industry electronics avionics design standards

  • Experience with troubleshooting, repair or design of electrical circuits

  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, etc.

  • Experience designing or troubleshooting batteries, power distribution, or power management

  • Experience with motor drives and sensors


  • Possesses and exhibits high judgement

  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work, and willingness to perform manual tasks when needed

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight

  • Must be willing to travel approximately 10% of the time

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Structural:

  • Experience with welded aluminum structures, common failures and analysis

  • Experience with composite structure design and repair

  • Experience machining or fabricating metallic components or composite layups

  • Mechanical:

  • Experience with test setups for fluid or actuated systems

  • Experience with cryogenic fluids best practices and design

  • International Fluid Power Society Hydraulic certification or equivalent

  • Electrical:

  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software such as Cadence OrCad or similar

  • Experience in power systems

  • IPC certification in J-STD-001, A-610, A-620 or similar

  • Experience using electronic test equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, etc.

  • Experience with configuration management and maintenance

  • Experience in both development and production environments

  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, VBA or other programing language

  • Project management skills consistent with leading a team through the complex development to production transition phase

  • Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) training or certification

  • Experience with 3D CAD software such as Creo, Pro/Engineer, CATIA, NX, Solidworks or similar

  • Experience in small company, startup, or growth transition environments
