Summary of Functions:
Coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within departments according to production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.
Are involved in the logistics of supply chain management. Most of their time is spent on business and organizational aspects of producing and distributing products. Accordingly, duties may also include monitoring production rates and raw material prices, contacting vendors and checking inventories.
In charge of organizing paperwork, such as purchase orders and delivery schedules review orders. Most tasks involve keeping and updating records and information, as well as coordinating purchasing with clients and co-workers. It is the job of the production planner to ensure smooth operations throughout the production and distribution life of a given product.
Distribute production schedules and work orders to departments
Review documents, such as production schedules, work orders, or staffing spreadsheets to determine personnel or materials requirements and priorities
Requisition and maintain inventories of materials or supplies necessary to meet production demands
Arrange for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules
Confer with department supervisors or other personnel to assess progress and discuss needed changes
Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions, collaborating with management, marketing, sales, production, or engineering
Confer with establishment personnel, vendors, or customers to coordinate production or shipping activities and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays
Examine documents, materials, or products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications
Record production data, including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, or quality control measures
Calculate figures, such as required amounts of labor materials, manufacturing costs, or wages, using pricing schedules, adding machines, calculators, or computers
Contact suppliers to verify shipment details and coordinate shipping activities with external parties
Coordinate operational activities by planning production commitments or timetables for business units, specific programs, or jobs, using sales forecasts.
Compile information, such as production rates and progress, materials inventories, materials used, or customer information, to complete status reports
Compile and prepare documentation related to production sequences, transportation, personnel schedules, or purchase, maintenance, or repair orders
Maintain files, such as maintenance records, bills of lading, or cost reports
Establish and prepare product construction directions and locations and information on required tools, materials, equipment, numbers of workers needed, and cost projections
Provide documentation and information to account for delays, difficulties, or changes to cost estimates
Work is considered low physical work in an office and production setting, requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform low physical work indoors with minimum exposure to dust.
Must be able to:
Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch for extended periods of time;
Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms.
Will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, or standing for hours at a time
Some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
Demonstrate the ability to hear and have specific vision abilities to adjust focus, in an environment subject to noise, dust, etc.
Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment.
The incumbent is located in a quiet office area and is faced with constant phone interactions and will be in contact with other staff.
Bachelors Degree in related field
2+ years of experience in manufacturing preferred
Experience with a manufacturing or processing company
Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and prioritize workload
Team player with high energy and a can-do attitude
Ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Required to have effective communication skills both verbal, as well as written
Overtime expected and required on short notice, with flexibility based on plant production schedules
Strong math skills, with capability of understanding and conducting basic arithmetic and statistical operations.
Ability to quickly recognize errors and inconsistencies in numerical data (good analysis skills).
Familiar with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Close attention to detail is essential
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
