A Product Test & Repair Technician is responsible for assembly, quality assurance and packaging of desktop computers. This position will work out of Micro Center's Columbus Distribution Center and is a warehouse/labor/production-oriented role. An ideal candidate would have experience in a production environment, with the ability to work well with your hands along with the ability to use basic tools. At this time, only local (Columbus, OH area) candidates will be considered.


  • New computer system assembly in accordance to established guidelines; station assigned by the lead build technician or the department manager.

  • Ensure quality and consistency between units.

  • Move system components in and out of the assigned area per guidelines.

  • Verify the parts ordered for repair or utilized in new build are the correct SKU and quantity prior to receiving; communicate any discrepancies to the lead build technician or the department manager in a timely manner.

  • Properly clean and pack finished computer in boxes and stack them on a pallet according to instructions and standards.

  • Assemble accessory kits with the proper components as listed in the guidelines for that model system.

  • Other related duties and tasks as assigned by management.


  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience building and troubleshooting desktop computers and an excellent attention to detail are required

  • CompTIA A+ certification is preferred, but not a prerequisite

  • Physical requirements include the ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs. and to stand all day.

This position makes equipment recommendations and ensures that units are maintained. Technicians work in both our stores with Tool Rental Centers and in our repair centers. In a store, technicians will be expected to provide service to store customers in Tool Rental which includes writing customer contracts and invoices for equipment rental and tool repairs, checking to make sure tool is operating properly and demonstrating its proper use (as needed). In addition to supporting customer repair needs, they are also responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of equipment in the tool rental department. In non-store locations, technicians will ensure units are repaired, tested for the quality of the repair and cleaned prior to returning to the store where the repair originated. Technicians must have a thorough knowledge of all tools and must effectively manage the tool inventory by maintaining the tools and repairing them as necessary. Home Depot Columbus OH
