This position reports up through P&C Standard Commercial Lines, but specifically supports the Commercial Agribusiness Auto product and staff underwriting functions within Nationwide Agribusiness. This role works closely with the Commercial Underwriting department to build, implement and monitor strategies and performance of the Commercial Auto product.
The role includes one direct report at this time. Interaction and visibility with senior leadership within Nationwide Agribusiness is an important function of the role.
JOB SUMMARY: Acts as a project lead on the initiation, development, and maintenance of products with respect to design, profitability and growth.
Based on organizational design, may gather information and make recommendations regarding: pricing and design features, underwriting, agency management, product distribution and claims procedures and standards. Promotes key initiatives to address product strategy and profitability objectives. Provides high level input on key initiatives to address product strategy and profitability objectives.
Supports assigned state/regional, and operations functions as required. Assist in the coordination and implementation of new product and product changes and assist in communicating product direction throughout the organization.
Reports To Product Director, Home/Regional Officer or VP. May have direct reports.
Leads in the development and maintenance, including features/capabilities of products from beginning to end.
Assist in providing support and leadership to all functional areas of the company to promote product design and management.
Provides support and guidance to all functional areas of the company related to product design and management of the product. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to management.
Provides high level, strategic input on key initiatives addressing product strategy and profitability objectives. Manages development and implementation of strategies supporting multiple product related profitability objectives.
Proactively identifies product opportunities in present markets or new markets and coordinates them within the organization's product development area. Relates these opportunities to corporate goals meeting company and/or regional needs and issues. Reacts appropriately to market conditions.
Works with Product Manager(s) to predict company and/or Regional/State needs and issues. Acts as a technical resource to Product Manager(s).
Maintains expert proficiency in pricing, product design legal compliance, data analysis, agency management best practices, product distribution, marketing, sales, claims, and statistical reporting and insurance financials.
Identifies and evaluates business opportunities. Provides management with regular assessment of financial results and recommendations to increase future performance.
Assist in communicating product strategy throughout the organization.
Reports product performance to management. Makes recommendations to increase future performance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Education: Undergraduate studies. Bachelor?s Degree or graduate studies preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Insurance licenses or industry designations (i.e. CPCU, ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP, NASD, etc.) based on organizational need, preferred.
Experience: Six years related experience in a related industry, including insurance, financial services, marketing, communications.
Knowledge of marketing techniques and approaches.
Competent knowledge of service offerings, products, competitors, customers and regulatory agencies. Evidence of increasing responsibility and exposure to research, analysis and development, and standards and practices for the selection, evaluation and pricing of product (commercial/personal/life) lines risks.
Skills/Competencies: Demonstrated responsible decision making.
Skilled in the use of analytic tools. Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, communicate well and to understand strategic objectives. High level of oral and written communication skills necessary to consult on communication planning and to direct development of marketing materials.
Ability to prioritize and manage long-term projects, as well as quick turn around assignments. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work in committees and act as project participant in all aspects of product design and maintenance.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
