Position Summary

This position is the first step in the career path leading towards the Category Merchant Position and beyond. This role supports the merchandising organization in managing a Technology product line or group of product lines for sales and margin impact in the commercial business. This involves developing a strong understanding of the customer through research efforts and frequent interactions with our field sellers, to assist the organization in developing selling strategies inspired by the customer. Key activities include: Sku set-up/maintenance and communications, vendor engagement, promotional planning and ad hoc analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage the SKU and Vendor set-up and maintenance process. Work collectively with all cross- channel partners

  • Maintain all databases with all information/changes for pricing, markdowns, images, content, etc

  • Collect and organize product information from vendors. Manage and maintain ad grids for promotional opportunities

  • Proactively follow up on any outstanding issues with appropriate cross functional teams

  • Liaise with external suppliers and vendors when necessary to complete tasks and troubleshoot issues

  • Perform ad hoc reporting to conduct weekly business recaps

  • Assist in execution of plans provided by merchant

Qualifications

Basic

  • Bachelor's degree (Required)

  • Organizational skills

  • Analytical/financial experience

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to multitask

  • Detailed oriented

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • A minimum 1 year prior work experience preferred in a retail environment Product, Retail, Merchandising, Sales, Procurement or Inventory

  • Intermediate level systems experience including spreadsheets (Excel)

As a Senior Specialist of Product Development, you will be on point to bring the next generation of private brand technology products to life at Staples. Working with Product Management, Product Design, Merchandising and sourcing, our product developers own the process of going from a concept to a finished product ready for sale. You'll have ownership of making sure we deliver products that meet our quality and cost targets and that they launch on time. Primary Responsibilities * Assist in the development of new and compelling private brand technology products through close collaboration with Product Management, Product Design, Merchandising and Sourcing. * Participate in all phases of bringing innovative products to market including ideation, product development, and launch. * Serve as an internal product expert and use this expertise to assist Product Management in presenting new products to the Merchant teams. * Oversee key development milestones including prototype development, pilot runs, third party testing, initial production runs, final product sample approval, etc. * Utilize your project management skills to ensure product development is on track and new products will launch on time. * Develop necessary test protocols to ensure products meet our requirements for quality, performance and regulatory compliance * Ensure product is clear of any IP issues, and work with Legal to file patents for your product * Identify potential manufacturing partners, execute RFPs and drive the final selection of which factory to work with * Execute strategy set by Director and Vice President of Product Management and Product Development.
