There is an immediate job opening in the IT Department for a Product Owner

  • Ordering/Inventory. The following partial job description explains this full-time position located at the Grimes Technology & Innovation Center. The position is primarily Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and some travel.

The Ordering/Inventory team keeps Hy-Vee humming by delivering and maintaining software related to vendors, purchase order creation, billing and inventory related processes.


  • Help execute the vision and strategy for our line of business applications, which includes integration with other systems in the Hy-Vee product eco-system

  • Interface with key people from our business team and management to capture requirements

  • Work with the business to distill large initiatives into a deliverable roadmap

  • Curate the product backlog

  • Work with the architects and technical members of the team to ensure that production vision and technical execution are in harmony

  • Be organized and detail oriented


High School or equivalent experience. Two to three years of additional schooling with an emphasis in technology is preferred.

Skills and Experience:


  • Effective and patient communicator that can translate technical and non-technical issues to various team members

  • Proven ability to guide the definition and refinement of product vision and strategy

  • Cross functional leadership skills to execute product strategy

  • Multiple years of hands-on experience as a Product Owner

  • Experience working within an environment with a Continuous Discovery/Delivery mindset

  • Multiple years of experience working directly with software engineers

  • Ability to learn new domains quickly

  • Desire to grow as an individual through continuously learning new techniques

  • Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages

  • Must possess the ability to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals; evaluate technical data; and counsel or advise people

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time

  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less up to 20 feet or more with or without correction; and color vision

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions


  • Experience in supply-chain and/or retail processes

  • Experience mentoring other Product Owners

  • Lean six sigma experience

  • Experience with elaborating user stories using models, acceptance criteria and examples in gherkin format

  • Experience with requirements analysis and elicitation

  • Experience working with automation engineers

  • Experience facilitating discussions between people from technical and business parts of the organization

  • Experience with system integration effort

Serve as the liaison between the leadership team and the scrum teams to ensure the strategy and vision are effectively communicated and considered in the design of each project. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal or sourced employees) from the ideation stage all the way through implementation to meet the value intent sought by each project or initiative. Must be adept at change management and leading impacted teams through changes with detailed communications plans and fully documented business procedures and training. What we are looking for: * Bachelor's Degree preferred * Minimum 3 years' business knowledge (previous life insurance and/or annuity experience) required * Familiarity with the principles of agile software delivery and lean process management * Ability to coordinate and influence prioritization of multiple organizational priorities simultaneously * Demonstrated knowledge of the product management/product discipline and portfolio planning including alignment with strategic goals and financial objectives * Demonstrated leadership effectiveness engaging delivery teams, customers and other stakeholders to support business objectives and develop overall product management capability (people, process, product) * Basic familiarity with the principles of design thinking, and lean and agile software delivery. * Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills * Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills * Organized and detail oriented * A self-starter with the ability to work independently * Ability to identify and resolve complex issues * Ability to oversee cross-site, cross-functional teams * Criminal background check required.
