Product Metallurgist - Can

Overview

Aluminum Dynamics LLC., is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Product Metallurgist for Beverage Packaging

• Can products division of our state-of-the-art Aluminum Rolling Mill, located in the Golden Triangle Region of Mississippi. The incumbent to this position will become the metallurgical subject matter expert in, aluminum can sheet product lines. The Product Metallurgist will interact with departmental process and product engineers to identify opportunities to meet customer requirements with improved product performance and capability. Key responsibilities will include new product development in accordance with Can Body, Can End, And Tabstock specifications, identifying technical opportunities for improvement, planning, overseeing and assessing production trials, customer interactions, reporting and communicating findings to improve quality and production. Beyond technical expertise, the incumbent must demonstrate a strong customer-centric approach. This includes having a pleasant demeanor, being approachable, and displaying genuine interest in resolving customer issues effectively.

Responsibilities

• Work with Can makers & customers and Departmental Metallurgists to ensure Can product specifications are met while optimizing production processes for new products

• Lead Can Body, Can End, and Tabstock qualifications including development & refinement of operating procedures, manufacturing flowpath management and qualifications for mill

• Apply metallurgical principles to assess new products and requirements for performance, improve productivity, runability and quality

• Identify and implement Can product improvement opportunities for production advancements based on customer needs and feedback

• Work with Can makers and customers to provide solutions to the requirements, implement corrective action procedures, track new product trials at Customers' site

• Lead cross-functional teams across the plant to analyze the Can rolled products to identify surface & metallurgical criteria and support root cause discovery and elimination with data driven and structured problem solving methods

• Contribute to product & process knowledge management system by sharing expertise and data in Can Sheet Metallurgy, Products & Processes, provide feedback to mill and report the analysis and solutions back to the customer with key results and improvements

• Work with Can makers, customers, Melt Shop, Rolling and Finishing metallurgists and process engineers on cost savings and quality initiatives

• Provide internal trainings on Metallurgical Testing & Characterization of Can Sheet, Formed products, and contribute to best-practices and knowledge management.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering

• 5+ years of experience in Can aluminum sheet production

• Can Body, Can End and Tabstock production experience is a definite plus

• Product development experience based on customer requirements

• Thorough knowledge of Can industry recognized material standards

• SAE, ASTM, ISO, etc.

• Proficiency in: Office programs, and statistical data analysis tools

• Lean manufacturing experience with continuous improvement for business impact and innovation

• Agile project implementation, good communication skills, and experience in matrix organization

• Strong leadership, verbal & written communications, and presentation skills
