Sea-Bird Scientific has an immediate need for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Product Manager to help us define the next generation of oceanographic and coastal instrumentation and systems. If you are passionate about the world's oceans and are interested in helping provide scientists around the world with the technologies they need to study broad-reaching topics like ocean acidification, ocean circulation, coastal eutrophication and climate change, then we would love to hear from you. We require a personable collaborator to play a key role in new product development and product sustainment efforts within Sea-Bird Scientific. This individual will be responsible for product management of a segment of Sea-Bird Scientific's product families. This position is based out of Sea-Bird Scientific's Bellevue, WA site, and the candidate will work closely with team members at our Philomath, OR site.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain business strategies for existing and new products, including pricing development, market evaluation, and sales performance analysis

  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps for assigned product families

  • Lead Voice of Customer (VOC) plans and implementation for assigned product families

  • Define functional requirements for new products

  • Lead competitive research and analysis for assigned product families

  • Manage idea generation, and launch schedule for new products

  • Travel to support conferences, meet with customers, and other business needs as required

Job Requirements


  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively

  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team and other functional groups. Adaptable to new situations. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and planning or project management skills

  • In-depth analytical skills in gathering and interpreting data, formulating conclusions, and developing strategies and actionable conclusions based on analysis

  • 2 years previous experience in product management preferable

  • Field experience with Oceanographic / coastal instrumentation including physical oceanographic sensors and optical sensors preferable

  • Experience with use and design of optical instrumentation preferable

  • Degree level: B.S. or B.A. in Physics, Engineering, Oceanography, or Optics preferable, MBA / post grad Marketing / Sales training highly desirable. M.S. or Ph.D. in Oceanographic technical discipline highly desirable

This position is responsible for supporting the sales efforts at a Sherwin-Williams paint store, servicing wholesale and retail customers.This position is responsible for assisting customers, with special emphasis on decorative products such as wallcovering, window treatments, faux finishing materials, etc. Incumbents are also required to provide assistance to sales representatives outside of the store. This position maintains the wallcovering and window treatment libraries, lending procedures and displays. It also ensures that orders for these products are handled properly. It is also responsible for tinting and mixing paint, pulling appropriate products from the sales floor or warehouse, and assisting with deliveries and warehouse duties as required. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Must have a valid driver's license. * Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status. * Must be willing to work all scheduled hours and required overtime, which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation. * Must be able to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. * Must be able to operate material handling equipment (e.g. hand truck, pallet jack, forkllift, etc.). * Must be able to tint paint, therefore, must be able to distinguish the difference between colors. * Must be able to operate a computer and communicate via the telephone. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or comparable certification (e.g. GED). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Prior decorative sales experience, particularly in the area of wallcovering. * An understanding of DIY customer project expectations, and advanced product and color coordination skills. * Associate Degree or related college courses. * Customer service skills, including problem solving and handling customer complaints. * Good written and verbal communication skills.
