Product Manager

Team: Product Development

Status: Regular/Full-Time/Exempt

The Product Manager is responsible for leading the development and management of Interactive products across current and emerging technology platforms. This position will maximize the quality and impact of digital service offerings with the intention of helping PBS deliver on its mission.

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate with Product Director on the development and management of digital products that will integrate on existing websites, interactive properties, and new and emerging platforms

  • Work closely with various customer constituencies to identify business priorities and corresponding justification

  • Define the product strategy and 18 month roadmap for assigned product(s) and periodically communicate these roadmaps to customer groups

  • Develop high quality functional requirements that provide adequate direction to design, engineering, QA and operational staff

  • Work closely with product engineering to develop realistic product delivery schedules

  • Implement 'agile' product management best practices across cross-functional team

  • Manage all aspects of the product lifecycle as a business with ultimate responsibility for achieving product-specific performance metrics

  • Identify cross-platform opportunities for products

  • Be an expert regarding relevant consumer, product and technology trends.

Requirements for success:

  • 3 years of experience in cross-functional digital product, program, or project management teams

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or other technology disciplines; or equivalent experience

  • Experience applying emerging media technologies, ideally involving distribution and deployment of products across a large, complex organization

  • Experience with agile software development methodology preferred

  • Hands-on software development experience would be a plus, but is not required

  • Strong understanding of enterprise and/or open source infrastructures and applications supporting user engagement and content distribution

  • Understanding the strengths and limitations of Flash, RSS, APIs, blogs, widgets, social networks, downloadable and streaming media, etc.

  • Experience with video and mobile technologies strongly preferred

  • Ability to develop plans, capture and analyze data, summarize findings and implement initiatives

  • Smart and quick thinker, with ability to thrive in a creative environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to converse effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

  • Experience managing disparate onshore and offshore product development teams preferred

  • Demonstrated track record for taking initiative and showing leadership as an internal product champion
