Product Line Business Development General Manager

Positional Summary

This role will focus on leading the feeder business and growth in new business segments where UIC's technical expertise and assembly solutions will support differentiated business projects for targeted technical areas, including: medical, consumer, variable reluctance motors and other markets to be determined.

Principal Accountabilities (Functional)

  • Drive sales/BD strategy and planning for the feeder business including annual business planning and development.

  • Lead feasibility assessments and conduct initial technology and business/market evaluations to test project viability.

  • Sponsor and conduct market, commercial and business evaluations to develop business/product strategies.

  • Understands customer/market needs so as to direct technical and business development activities.

  • Develops product specific annual business plans and budgets to maximize earnings.

  • Engages effectively with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders to drive product and business development and manage effective contracting and commercial engagements.

  • Identifies needs and sponsors business team development to bring special projects into production including management, sales and service, engineering, operations and other staff as necessary.

  • Regularly meets internal and external customers to manage expectations and requirements for products and services. Reports progress and programmatic requirements to CEO and executive staff.

  • Serves as central point of contact for customer relationship management. Provides direction and strategies for interface management and serves as the information conduit and filter. Establishes Universal/customer interface protocol.

Principal Accountabilities (General Supervisory)

  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable State and Federal laws, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and appraising performance.

  • Interprets company policies to employees and enforces all safety regulations.

  • Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department; may include budget development and control.

  • Develops workforce planning and utilization programs to satisfy actual and projected requirements. Includes the scheduling of overtime and cost/effective use of temporary services.

  • Implements cross-training activities and plans for employees under his/her direction with specific attention toward the development of a highly flexible work force.

  • Establishes and implements team/individual Critical Success Factors, including the measurement and documentation of the progress of each employee toward the established goals.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work-related problems.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field and 10 years of progressive business responsibility in product management, sales, quality, marketing or business development.

  • Must demonstrate maturity, drive, creativity, poise under pressure and credibility with customers and other stakeholders.

  • An ideal candidate will have experience in developing viable, new technical business ideas and delivering profitable business/products into medical and consumer markets with year 2 sales in excess of $20M.

Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality

  • Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.

  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly in giving presentations.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly with fellow workers.

  • The ability to travel extensively to customer sites.
