Grainger is a broad line, business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies and other related products and services. More than 3.2 million businesses and institutions worldwide rely on Grainger for products such as safety gloves, ladders, motors and janitorial supplies, along with services like inventory management and technical support. They place orders online, on mobile devices, through sales representatives, over the phone and at local branches. Approximately 5,000 suppliers provide Grainger with more than 1.6 million products stocked in Grainger's distribution centers and branches worldwide.

Primary Function:

Responsible for maintenance and quality of existing product information and the curation of new product information to ensure complete and accurate information in the Product Information Management (PIM) System.

Responsible for supporting business initiatives and projects related to curating and maintaining product information while ensuring the data integrity and hierarchy structure.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform product information activities such as data analysis, editing, applying updates resulting from normalization, technical content support and other functions related to content issues, and ensuring the consistency of product information.

  • Execute and comply with Grainger's product master data standards.

  • Clean, maintain and normalize product information based on business priorities and using defined processes.

  • Participate in PI team projects that support business priorities.

  • Work with peers and various business partners supporting overall merchandising initiatives

  • Address data content, consistency, and Taxonomy issues and analyze the best way to implement within the product information data model.

  • Execute additions, changes, and deletes to the Taxonomy structure.

  • Support new product introduction and maintenance processes for product information

  • Review product information for accuracy, completeness and consistency.

  • Respond to and act on customer feedback about product selection and data accuracy.

  • Manage assigned projects to completion and complete daily tasks on time and proactively communicate timelines to appropriate business partners.

  • Complete heavy volumes of product information work against tight deadlines

  • Achieve monthly product information change throughputs aligned to product area

  • Participate in improvement opportunities and provide constructive feedback

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • BS/BA required or commensurate work experience.

  • 1-3 years of experience in related field preferred.

  • Analytical Skill -- Proven experience in managing and analysis of product information data. Highly skilled at analyzing large sets of data and sorting relevant information. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, Access). Experience with MSSQL or Excel VBA a plus, but not required.

  • Customer Knowledge

  • Keen awareness of increasing customer expectations around Product Information. Experience with MRO product information preferred. Understands Product Information strategies.
  • Relationship Building -- Build and maintain relationships in a matrixed corporate environment as well as Grainger suppliers. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal and build relationships with various levels of the organization and Grainger Suppliers. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Communication -- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Proven ability to communicate messages within the organization and Grainger Suppliers. Able to work well with others within team and across the organization.

  • Time Management

  • Proven ability to demonstrate flexibility and time management skills to accomplish multiple priorities and initiatives. Models customer focus in terms of response time, commitment, and resourcefulness
  • Technical Knowledge
  • Able to understand technical information, concepts, and decisions. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply proprietary analytical tools. Demonstrated ability to use technical support or technical data. Ability to quickly learn, become competent in, and effectively apply new technologies or processes.
  • Attention to Detail -- Excellent attention to detail specific to relevant, accurate, and complete product information

  • Problem Solving -- Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to bring groups together. Aptitude for grasping and applying acquired knowledge

This position can be based in Lake Forest, Downtown or Janesville, WI post-pandemic.

The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail to ensure that all information is accurate, complete and easy for customers to understand. How you will do it * Create and normalize product content and data from various sources to ensure accurate data consistently. * Validate product content including images, dimensions and descriptions for accuracy before web publishing. * Improve item-level data quality by implementing data audits to all categories by routinely cleaning up and removing old SKUs, and organize spreadsheets when necessary. * Assign and supersede related and associated products to equipment SKUs to publish online. * Create and organize product data for bundled product templates and import files. * Validate and assign product placement into appropriate taxonomy structure. * Develop consistent reporting, and create strategic plan for specific products, categories, and data clean up. * Ensure that the website is up-to-date and accurate with respect to images, promotions, and products on a day-to-day basis. * Work with eCommerce Development Manager on a daily basis to identify and prioritize product updates. * Research websites, technical guides and various other systems to gather data needs for product attributes, content, and images. * Update and sort multiple Microsoft Excel Workbooks with formulas, macros, and advanced formatting. * Create and update SEO content within product titles, descriptions, and metadata. * Continually monitor the sites to identify any systemic issues that could challenge customer experience. * Analyze, gather details and report product issues, trends, concerns, and suggestions. * Complete other assignments and special projects as required. What we look for Required * Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Visual Media, Business or related field. * Minimum 5-7 years' experience marketing/eCommerce website experience. * Knowledge of PIM or CRM software. * Experience collecting and managing product-related digital and technical assets. * Experience with product content creation, optimization and maintenance. * Demonstrated project management abilities by multi-tasking, prioritizing, being flexible and meeting deadlines on a consistent basis. * Analyzing, conceptualizing and logically organizing information with a high degree of precision and accuracy. * Building and maintaining solid relationships with retailers and vendors. * High attention to detail. * Experience with product taxonomy and assortment management. * Dedicated work ethic and punctuality. * Responsible and reliable with strong personal integrity. * Advanced level expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. Preferred * HVAC industry experience. * Experience with inRiver. * Learning new platforms for management and distribution of information.
