Job Summary & Core Responsibilities:

Evaluates areas of the shop to determine product improvement needs through people, processes, material, and equipment.

  • Inspect cars to determine the extent of defects.

  • Identify problematic areas within the facility for product improvement

  • Investigate areas with high defect rates

  • Train team members on ways to eliminate repeat defects

  • Performs process audits to ensure regulatory compliance

  • Understanding of AAR and FRA regulatory requirements

  • Ability to understand and review our quality and operation processes

  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities related to the root cause of identified issues (Man, material, method, equipment, and environment)

  • Investigate and bound the extent of issues (i.e. containment) identified and identify whether the issue was systemic or isolated in nature

Required Experience / Skills / Qualifications

  • Full and complete knowledge of welding and paint processes, defect repair methods, material requirments, inspection, and company policies.

  • Full knowledge of Quality System, Process Requirements, Regulatory Requirements

  • Effective internal and external communication skills in a team environment, including communicating up, down, and across the organization.

  • Ability to conduct non-conformance investigations and communicate possible solutions effectively.

Required Education / Training / Certifications:

  • Equivalent to four years of high school plus two years of college or three to four years trades training and three to five years of experience.
  • 5 to 10 years railcar manufacturing experience
  • VT Certification

Ensures that production tools and supplies are available, helps maintain a high quality of workmanship, and maintains routine contacts with support groups. Required Skills & Qualifications: * Coordinates steel shop production activities by planning manpower requirements and by assigning employees to meet production schedules. * Helps set up production methods and processes to facilitate production. * Recommends new or improved steel shop production methods and techniques and helps coordinate such approved changes. * Ensures that necessary production tools and supplies are always available to steel shop employees. * Works with steel shop staff to assist employees in maintaining a high level of quality workmanship. * Maintains routine contact with support departments to keep them aware of manpower needs, personnel actions, and pay issues. * Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained. * Performs other duties as directed by the Manufacturing/ Operations Manager. Required Experience / Education / Training / Certifications:Prefer an associate's degree or the equivalent and at least four years' shop experience and knowledge of welding/steel production methods, processes, and product specifications, including two years' supervisory experience.
