Regulatory product compliance is a critical business function and a rapidly expanding sector. The role facilitates global market access by leveraging product and process legislation. Regulatory complexity is increasing and continuously evolving with many local, national, and international codes, standards, and regulations.
Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Product Environmental Compliance Engineer to join the regulatory compliance engineering team to ensure Solar, Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Systems meet all applicable product environmental compliance requirements.
You will be responsible for ensuring Tesla products comply with national and international environmental laws and regulations. This position will also serve as the environmental subject matter expert and the main regulatory point of contact within the product compliance team.
This role will oversee all compliance related activities associated with the applicable environmental regulations and directives, such as but not limited to EU REACH Regulation, EU WEEE Directive, EU RoHS I/II (III) Directive, EU Battery Regulation, EU POP Regulation, EU F-gas Regulation, PFAS related Regulations, and Cal Prop 65.
Ensure Tesla Energy, Charging and Solar products are in compliance with all applicable local, national, and international environmental laws and regulations
Develop and maintain environmental legal registers/databases
Interface with Suppliers to provide support on materials data submission and drive data collection
Collect, analyze, and interpret material data to assess risk and evaluate compliance
Identify, analyze, and track new and emerging environmental regulations, including participation in legislative development
Implement and improve programs and procedures to manage and sustain compliance certifications and registrations
Support Sales, Operations, and EHS team on extracting and interpretting regulation requirements
Perform preliminary material analytical testing for regulated substances such as XRF
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Chemical, Materials, Environmental Science or a closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent in experience
Three or more years of experience contributing to the success of environmental compliance programs
Strong technical knowledge and experience in meeting compliance and reporting requirements from REACH Regulation, WEEE Directive, RoHS I/II (III) Directive, Battery Regulation, EU POP, Cal Prop 65
Strong understanding of EU CE marking process, North American, and APAC environmental regulations
Experience in identifying high risk substances, materials, and components in electronic products
Demonstrated experience taking products through materials testing and certification process
Strong understanding on the concepts and purpose behind materials testing methods such as XRF, FTIR, GC/LC MS
Experience in supporting Quality Management System and Environmental Management Systems
Comfortable and effective in collaborating with cross functional teams
Proficient in Microsoft applications, material compliance data exchange platforms, product lifecycle management systems
