Job Description: & Qualifications

Lead the development and release of digital design data (CAD) representing vehicle body subsystems which are functionally compliant, manufacturing feasible and meet corporate and program targets. Collaboratively create innovative designs with Studio, Craftsmanship, System and Manufacturing Engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Use Ford digital tools (CATIA V5, TeamCenter, TeamCenter Vis Mockup) to create new, innovative product and system designs

  • Use TeamCenter PLM to help integrate system designs

  • Work closely with Design and CAE Engineers to verify designs are robust and functionally compliant; proactively devise new solutions to resolve design, assembly, service and manufacturing issues

  • Collaborate with part and assembly Manufacturing Engineers to develop manufacturing feasible solutions

  • Collaborate with Studio and Craftsmanship Engineers to develop innovative designs

  • Apply GD&T to drawings and/or Part Manufacturing Information to help ensure repeatable quality designs

  • Help develop digital automation tools that align product definition to design rules, requirements and corporate standards to generate repeatable designs

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Physics or Four-Year Engineering Technology degree

  • Including coursework/internship/co-op: 3+ months of experience with CAD tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Physics or related degree

  • Application of CATIA V5 GSD / Part Design / Assembly Design

  • Experience in self-teaching CAD tool functionality through experimentation

  • Experience in utilizing CAD and PLM tools to their greatest potential

  • Experience in Manufacturing Processes (Injection Molding | Stamping)

  • Experience in Injection Mold Design and/or Die Design

  • Exposure to CATIA Knowledgeware

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and effectively communicate to management

  • Experience in programming for automation

  • Ability to communicate clearly and express new ideas

Professional position utilizing automotive experience to validate fit & finish targets at assembly plants. Program timeframe is during the vehicle launch phase of programs, and will interact with engineering & program teams. Responsible for measuring fit & finish craftsmanship targets & driving open issues thru to closure. Responsibilities: * Work with CAD designers to update fit and finish (F&F) and Surface Requirement Illustrations (SRI) sections to include measurement requirements (i.e., margins, flushness, parallelism, and symmetry) in addition to design requirements * Confirm inclusion of F&F and SRI requirements in Special Characteristics Communications and Agreement form (SCCAF) for interior and exterior commodities * Monitor progress of Engineer's Review/Sign-off of Parts and Data for Trim Coordination Builds (TCB) and Part Coordination Fixture—Exterior Ornamentation (PCF) events. * Audit prototype, Trim Coordination Build (TCB), Part Coordination Fixture—Exterior Ornamentation (PCF) and production build vehicles leading to Ok-to-Buy for F&F and SRI requirement compliance. * Track and manage closure of Fit and Finish and Surface Requirement Illustration issues through Ford's on line data base (i.e., AIMS). * Provide updates for Fit and Finish/Surface Illustration Requirements and Meets Design Intent/Meets Customer Expectations items closed loop lessons learned. * Review part dimensional data and solve system Issues. * Report Fit to Nominal (vehicle fit and finish and surface requirement illustration confirmation process) metrics. * On - site PD lead for Trim Coordination Build (TCB) and Part Coordination Fixture Exterior Ornamentation (PCF) events. * Lead reviews with engineers / suppliers for part signoff for Phase 1 - Ok to Grain -- Drive closure of component and system dimensional issues. * Capture issues found during TCB events and document in AIMS (Ford's on line build issues data base) - ensure alignment with Product Development engineers, Supplier Technical Assistance, and Vehicle Operations before writing into AIMS to eliminate duplicate issue writing. * Evaluate Fit & Finish and Surface Requirement Illustration specifications and record measurements in Ford's "VAST" system (Ford's on line Fit & Finish data base). * Launch team member - "Live" at Nominal Engineering Buck (NEB)/Vehicle Builds (VP through OKTB) located at the lead assembly plant. * Track "Fit to Nominal" Signoff for All Body Interior parts. * Lead Management / TCB reviews at build site: * Key Fit to Nominal metrics * Key OK to Grain metrics * Significant out of specification fit and finish issues * Schedule "fit to nominal" meetings with ALL interior suppliers and engineers and work with them to "tune" parts until Fit to Nominal requirements are met. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required. * 3+ years working with GD&T, gages, and vehicle measurement techniques preferred Preferred Requirements: * Ability to work with diverse groups including Ford's Design & Release engineers, Manufacturing engineers, and supplier engineers. * Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors. * Ability to travel to all Ford assembly plants (U.S., Canada, and Mexico) to support new model launches. * Ability to travel to meet with Ford suppliers and perform onsite part evaluations. * Position is continuous and ongoing and not tied to a single program or a fixed duration.
