We currently seek to fill the position of Product Engineer - Stock Prep to perform design, engineering, and manufacturing support functions from initial concept to final production of new equipment or alterations on existing Stock Prep products. The Product Engineer will interface with all department employees and other KBC employees and suppliers on special projects, as well as clients with installation or field mechanical support needs, all while advancing KBC's mission of being a forward-thinking, collaborative, and ethical business.

Responsibilities Primary engineering point of contact for the full line of cleaners to include design improvements, resolution of quality issues and new product lead for large custom plastic injection molded parts. Creates and maintains all necessary files and records, including standard BOMs, assemblies, and product line development requirements.

Prepares technical information as required, including development of product manuals, documentation of ancillary items, and provides the applications group with mechanical details required for the technical information bulletin (TIB). Reviews all project drawings for conformance with current standards and takes corrective action where required.

Works with Purchasing and outside suppliers as required. Research installed equipment and gathers data for sales and applications use in support of clients and proposals.

Evaluates and provides departmental time estimates for timely completion of tasks.

Creates preliminary through final equipment layouts and is responsible for all design calculations/documentation. Reviews assignment and specifications of designing demands and negotiates alterations or revisions to requests or proposals, if necessary.

Designs products using SolidWorks parametric design software and other technologies as appropriate and may include FEA and other analysis techniques, as appropriate.

Assigns, oversees, and checks work of the Designers and ensures they are using KBC standard modeling practices. Investigates problems in shop or with field installation as assigned; reviews and processes engineering change requests and engineering change notices.

Supervises other employees and/or contractors involved with assigned projects in the office.

May also supervise Kadant and client field installation, operation, and/or repair efforts at clients and supplier locations. Responsible for specific products as assigned by the Production Engineering Manager. Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Plastics material knowledge of large custom plastic injection molded parts.

Material experience with a variety of engineering plastic resins to include ABS, Polypropylene, GF Nylon, and others.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Demonstrates KBC values of personal accountability, discipline, trust, and proactive action. Position requires knowledge of technical engineering, machining, fabricating, and the ability to read drawings.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent career experience, is required.

Four or more years' experience in complex fabrications, large castings, large plastic parts, rotating machinery, and capital process equipment using 3D/2D CAD systems is preferred.
