The incumbent will support primarily small organic and vitrified abrasive products that are sold into Rough Grinding &Cutoff applications, and Vitrified Internal Grinding and Tool-Room applications. He/she must gain an intimate knowledge of assigned products & applications.
The principal location for this position will be in the Reynosa Mexico Bonded Abrasives plant. Must be willing to travel to the US.
Candidates must be willing to live in the Pharr/McAllen, Texas area and work in the Saint-Gobain Abrasives facility in Reynosa, Mexico.
As a technical product and application specialist, the incumbent provides technical information and assistance to Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, R&D, customers and distributors for all matters relating to the product design, specifications, quality, use, marketing and promotion.
The successful candidate will generally work on short range, technically challenging projects. This includes selection, development, testing, evaluation and introduction of standard, modified or new products; the study of competitive products and activities. Weekly and monthly status reporting is critical to keep his/her supervisor informed.
Supports multiple product lines in transition including:
Key point of contact for organic, cutoff, portable and saw gumming lines relocating to Reynosa. There is neither product expertise or technical history for producing these in Reynosa- the PE is going to be an integral part of identifying performance and process issues as well as availability and formulation changes and improvements in these product lines.
Responsible for developing one entirely new product (organic Segments ) not currently offered or manufactured- WITH NO assistance from R&D, including makeability, Grain/ Bond availability, formulations and specifications .
Key to coordinating roll out and testing of new ceramic offerings in Reynosa (NQN, TQ) and new Vit Bonds (SiC).
Will coordinate with Plant and Worcester MFG and Product Engineering to improve manufacturing efficiency and capacity
Is largely responsible for interfacing with Plant Engineering and US, European and Asian Product Management and Customer Service to support World Wide Mounted Point offering and requirements which is a complex and detailed business in which we are competing with competitors who specialize in that market.
The incumbent will be expected to work closely with manufacturing plants in Worcester and Reynosa Mexico to provide technical and analytical support as a team member on projects to transfer manufacturing location or improve internal manufacturing quality, reliability, cost position and drive product sales growth for assigned products.
Approximately 40% of his/her time will be spent on project work and 60% to provide daily technical assistance to both internal and external customers.
Independent action- Reports to remote manager. Requires maturity and manufacturing engineering experience in order to provide product and process assistance, guidance and evaluation to the supported Reynosa Bonded plant. The nearest experienced Vit and Organic Engineers are located in Worcester, and the PE is the interface between Worcester (Plant 7 & 8) and the entire Reynosa operation.
The incumbent will work with a minimum of supervision; be competent in planning and organizing his/her work activities; highly motivated and overcome problems as they arise. A high degree of self-discipline, self-motivation, and enthusiasm should be evident to all that work with him/her.
The Product Engineer will spend 10- 25% of his/her time in the field working with internal sales personnel, customers and distributors. While working in the field, the incumbent is often involved in second or third shift work and is subject to
occasional weekend travel. (Up to 50% travel)
The ideal candidate should possess the following requirements:
Fluent Spanish and English required
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering related discipline or commensurate manufacturing or application engineering experience. 3-5 years' experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is strongly desirable
Demonstrated skill for driving technical projects through to completion
Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to read and edit blue prints, and a thorough understanding of industrial machinery and tooling.
Excellent computer data analysis skills. Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
Strong personal written and spoken communication skills in individual and group settings as a large amount of his/her time is spent working with or training people within and outside of the company.
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
Able to make independent decisions as well as operate in a team environment
