Medtronic's Surgical Solutions is seeking a Product Engineer for the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team. The position will be in the New Product Development (NPD) Pilot Manufacturing team. The Product Engineer provides direct line support of products in Launch, Pilot and Commercialization phases. They perform troubleshooting of production equipment and tooling. Develop process improvements to decrease costs and scrap levels to ensure product delivery. They collaborate with their product NPD teams such as AME Development and Design Engineers.

The Product Engineer will prioritize daily production activities, improvements, scheduling and production tracking. The Position is in a fast-paced, and collaborative environment that is supportive of program initiatives and compliant with the company's best practices, Tenets and Philosophy.

Essential Functions Product Engineer

  • Create process documentation including SWI, Control Plans and job safety analysis sheets.

  • Perform root Cause Analysis (RCA), NCR and CAPA responses.

  • Train others.

  • Create Process Flows, assembly line layouts, balance tables, assembly capacity analysis, and EHS project plans

  • Manage the day to day activities of the production cells for new products post launch. This includes making improvements to achieve cost, quality and efficiency targets

  • Actively participate in COS/Lean initiatives to stabilize production lines and reduce the time to transfer to Plant

  • Support line validation / qualification activities for including IQ, OQ , MSA and PQ

  • Write testing protocols for product evaluations; oversee and analyze product evaluation requests

  • Actively participate in PFMEA, DFMEA, Process Mapping, and Critical to Quality (CTQ) reviews assuring specifications are well defined and documented

  • Provide input for all assembly tooling required to support new product development activity as required.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on purchased tooling, systems and fixtures.

  • Continue to enhance engineering and leadership skills through additional training and education

  • Follow established guidelines and management direction with regard to engineering decisions and departmental / company policy

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, and problems; device specification and yield problems; minor redesign of devices and masks; analysis of customer returns; and optimizing device production relative to cost constraints.

  • Assumes responsibility for device after transfer into high-volume production and usually responsible for entire device manufacturing operations other than wafer fabrication.

  • May assist customer in device usage problems or customer testing of complex devices.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Is A Bachelor's Degree Required? Yes

Must Have: Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering Discipline.

  • 2-7 years of applicable manufacturing experience.

  • Strong/Proven Project Leadership Skills

  • Self-Driven and Motivated

  • Ability to Multitasking

  • Strong Knowledge of MS Office

Nice to Have

  • Medical Device manufacturing and experience with GMPs.

  • Validation Experience, IQ, DOE, OQ, and PQ.

  • Strong/Proven Project Leadership Skills

  • Knowledge of 3-D CAD systems, Creo/ProE

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) Process

  • Quality Engineering /Quality Assurance experience a plus.

  • Positive attitude with good interpersonal skills

VIEW JOBS 11/30/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-28T00:00 Careers that Change Lives SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Plastics Materials Product Engineer will provide technical input on material selection, design and manufacturing of plastic based component parts and subassemblies in support of New Product Development (NPD) efforts for innovative surgical devices. As a key member of project Extended Teams, the Plastics Engineer will confer with R&D to specify part and subassembly design characteristics to optimize manufacturability, functionality, cost and quality. He/she will also work directly with Procurement and suppliers in support of tooling and fixture design, manufacturing process strategy and the production part qualification process to meet or exceed project milestones and overall business Time to Market (TTM) requirements. The Plastics Engineer will work under the direction of an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer in a fast-paced collaborative environment supportive of program initiatives and compliant with company best practices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. With an understanding of product designs and component interactions, specify part material selections and design features to effectively balance functionality with manufacturability and cost. 2. Participate in R&D Engineering meetings and Quality Design FMEA meetings. 3. Complete and document Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analyses and drive effective resolutions with R&D pertaining to any identified risks. 4. Participant in the Capital Expense Request (CER) process, specifying costs for Component Tooling and any related Test or Inspection Fixtures, with consideration to product standard cost targets and capacity demands. 5. Contributor to project business studies, providing Engineering Estimates of production component parts and subassemblies based on knowledge of materials and processing costs. 6. Key team member in the supplier selection process, including the definition of tooling and manufacturing process strategies. 7. Work collaboratively with the Quality, Sourcing and R&D cross-functional team to review, disposition and approve PPAP submissions. 8. Facilitate Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) technical meetings, effectively document agreements and risks, and drive closure of open action items. 9. Generate electronic Purchase Requisitions based on quotations from selected suppliers for build of Capital Tooling and qualification of Production Processes. 10. Participate and critique mold tool designs. Be accountable for the quality of the tooling design. 11. Strategic supplier contact during tool fabrication and part qualification, providing technical support and project management resources. 12. Responsible for review and approval of supplier tool designs prior to initiation of fabrication. 13. Execute Materials Engineering product transfer deliverables from Pilot to the receiving Plant. 14. Advise Management of any unmitigated risks and/or developments that could affect TTM or standard cost.
