Overview

The primary focus of this position is to drive improvements in product quality, yield, cost, performance, and customer satisfaction in our High Brightness and Video LED product lines. Product engineering is closely aligned with all levels of LED engineering, production control and marketing to make products that meet or exceed both cost and performance goals. A successful candidate will take customer feedback, inline testing results, factory constraints and demand to drive revenue growth in all sectors of the market.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Global Operations team on any sustaining, process changes, or yield improvement activities needed to improve product margin

  • Manage capital expansion projects from budgeting to installation to production

  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for planning, managing, and executing product transfer projects from concept through release

  • Develop and execute qualification plans to enable manufacturing at all sites.

  • Ensure all product transfers are released on time, on budget, and meeting yield entitlement

  • Coordination and collaboration with tool vendors to source and then launch tools/equipment.

  • Communicate and report out project status to senior management

  • Defines control parameters, develops and maintains monitoring systems to rapidly detect and act upon process variations.

  • Monitor product performance in terms of brightness, wavelength, and forward voltage to ensure that the customer's needs are met.

  • Monitor product yields at various steps in the line to ensure that the cost and delivery schedule is met.

  • Work closely with the production control team to align production with demand and factory capabilities.

  • Work with various teams to address and resolve all customer quality issues.

  • Analyze data using sound statistical methodology to drive improvements and recommendations to operations and process engineering

  • Interface with marketing, process, R&D and reliability engineering to drive quality initiatives and maintain best in class outgoing quality.

  • Understanding and dispositioning of all NCM events with primary focus being on ensuring product quality and preventing recurrence through CAPAs.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering.

  • Must possess a solid understanding of semiconductor wafer fabrication techniques and procedures.

  • 3+ years recent experience as a Product/Process/Quality Engineer in a semiconductor environment

  • Strong analytical background with understanding of core statistical techniques

  • Ability to interface with people of different backgrounds and at every level of the organization.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong drive to produce results in a timely fashion and have sense of urgency.

  • Be willing and able to travel internationally

  • Ability to multitask effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with off-site factory support

  • Chip to component manufacturing experience

  • Component to board / SMT experience

  • Strong self-motivation and project management experience.

  • MS or Ph.D. in Electrical, Chemical, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience with SQL, JMP, MS Access, Spotfire.

  • Experience at identifying patterns and defect clusters in manufacturing data.

  • Experience at failure analysis and understanding of typical failure analysis techniques (SEM, EDS, FIB, Auger, etc.)

Location

This is an on-site position at our Durham, North Carolina facility.

Travel

Travel to international facilities may be required up to 33% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Durham, North Carolina is $70,000 - $95,000; the pay ultimately offered within the expected range may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
