Title: Product Engineer

Are you looking to make significant contributions to the development of consumer electronics while earning your Bachelor's degree? As a Product Engineer

  • Intern you will be fully integrated into day-to-day operations focused on the design and testing of the next generation of Internet-connected cameras and connected home products. You'll be working with our entire team of experienced engineers to ensure that we are delivering the best possible product to our customers.

The ideal candidate will be a recent college grad or current student pursuing software or hardware engineering / EE. The hours for this position can be flexible (approx 20+ hrs per week) given your class schedule. This position does require that you work in our office as you will working with physical devices and related systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within the project management group to understand product requirements, develop and execute test plans, & report on test results

  • Track, assemble, test, and help with support product development and other internal product design and test efforts

  • Setup, debug, and manage our prototypes for the entire engineering team.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

Seeking a degree (or in-process) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or similar field of study and experience in one or more of the following:

  • Familiar with embedded systems, connected internet products and/ or IOS and Android apps

  • Familiar with networking protocols and embedded Linux environment

  • Familiar with basic hardware test equipment and EE design and troubleshooting

  • Software QA, debugging, and hardware experience desirable

  • Basic IT support/networking/software development experience helpful

Required Education:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of higher level college education (Bachelor's in progress) in the above areas.

In this role you will learn what it takes to be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and delivery of prototype hardware. You will leverage and grow your skills in engineering, communication, problem solving, coordination, and leadership to achieve your goals and objectives. You will work with functional areas across the company as well as partners and suppliers outside of Viasat. You will coordinate the successful transition of products from development to production. If your passion is to creatively tackle the issues and problems of new product development, if you crave the excitement, challenge, and responsibilities of manufacturing engineering from the engineering development perspective, and if you seek to guide the development of highly manufactured products into production, this Intern opportunity is for you. Requirements * Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering * Basic understanding of production processes- mechanical assembly, board assembly and SMT, cable and harness assembly * Process improvement-oriented * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office * Enjoy working on multi-disciplinary teams * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Able to commit to a 10-12 week summer internship Preferences * Previous relevant internship experience * Demonstrated leadership skills * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings * Experience applying Lean Six Sigma principles * Understanding of configuration management practices, including bills of material and engineering change orders * Background working with printed wiring assemblies and/or electronics box builds To learn more about this site and other office locations, please click here!
