Product Engineer I

JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Product Engineer I to join our growing team.

The Opportunity: The Product Engineer 1 is responsible for the design and development of new products, including improvements to existing products to improve the performance. Will work closely with Product Engineers and Product Engineering Manager to carry out a variety of product designs and project work. Reports to: Senior Product Engineering

What You Will Do: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• This is an entry level position and requires training and supervision by Product Engineers 2 and Senior Level

• Manage simple design projects

• Manage/supervise some of the less complex work done by Designers

• Apply engineering background to develop unique solutions to problems.

• Member of brainstorming groups.

• Member of design reviews.Identify the requirements of product development projects on a per project basis and work through the group to fulfill those requirements

• Participate as a team member and at times lead multi-disciplinary teams.

• Coordinate testing and certification of all the products under his/her jurisdiction.

• Communicate with suppliers as required.

• Review drawings and Product Change Requests for accuracy.

• Creates mechanical/architectural drawings with a mid level of complexity by reviewing models, sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with Product Engineers.

• The finished product must be a professional drawing package.

• Prepares entry level mechanical/architectural sketches and drawings by rendering sectional, auxiliary, and multi-views, sub-assemblies, pictorials, dimensions, and developments; producing two- and three-dimensional orthographic projections using computer aided design (CAD) and pictorial techniques; producing three-dimensional (3-D) models.

• Prepares 3D models for Designers to break them down into assemblies, sub assemblies and detail drawings.

• Utilize the drawing number system within PDL.Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating changes.

• Maintain the project information within PDL/Share Point.

• Project time estimates

• Notes - calculation, email

• Product Drawings

• Cut Sheets - photocopies from suppliers catalogs with highlighted parts

• Purchase Orders

• Red lines

• Perform preliminary drawing check before the drawing is submitted to Checker or Senior Product Engineer.

• Performs preliminary bill of material check.

• Generate/check bill of materials for the Data Department.

• Checks drawings/work done by other Designers

• Update red lines if required

• Responsible for assisting in the Drawing, CAD and 3D Modeling Standards.

• Communicate workload with Senior Product Engineer, Product Engineering Manager.

• Build and test prototypes.

• Maintain a sense of urgency/responsibility on a daily basis with all projects.

• Ensure product designs are manufacturing friendly.

• Review designs with plant personnel and JELD-WEN Engineering.

• Work with and train Designers levels 1, 2, Senior and Product Engineers 1.

• Evaluates materials and makes recommendations.

• Keep abreast of changes in the industry, materials, and process technologies.

• Work with leadership to ensure that Product Engineering is meeting their needs

Perform thermal analysis

• Prepares 3D models for Product Engineers and designers to break them down into assemblies, sub-assemblies, and detail drawings.Utilize the drawing number system within Autodesk Vault.

• Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating changes.

• Maintain the project information within Autodesk Vault.

• Project time estimates

• Notes - calculations - e-mail

• Product Drawings

• Cut Sheets - photocopies/scans from suppliers catalogs with highlighted parts

• Purchase Orders

• Drawings - 11x17 prints

• Performs preliminary bill of material check.

• Generate/check bill of materials for the Data Department.

• Approve drawings/work done by other designers and Product Engineer 1, 2.

• Responsible for assisting in the Drawing, CAD, and 3D Modeling Standards.

• Communicate work load and project schedules with Product Engineering Manager.

• Build and test prototypes.

• Maintain a sense of urgency/responsibility on a daily basis with all projects and communicate this to Designers and Product Engineers.

• Ensure product designs are manufacturing friendly (DFMEA).

• Review designs with PLM's, plant personnel and Equipment Engineering.

Who You Are:

• Education: BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).

• CAD and Drafting Skills, AutoCAD, Inventor, 3D modeling, GD&T principles.

• Understanding and application of tolerance and datum's and how to apply them.

• Microsoft office (Word, Excel).

• Experience: 0-3 years.

• Entry position in terms of the complexity of work.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Requires little supervision and training by Senior Product Engineer.

• Interfaces with outside suppliers.

• Maintain a professional drawing system.

• Proven track record for on time and complete.

Travel:

• 15-20% travel is anticipated.
