Description
The Product Engineer acts as the primary technical contact for information regarding the design, manufacturing processes, and engineering support for the Ultra Tech product line. As a global leader, the Ultra Tech brand engineers unique, value-added piping systems and accessories of a highly technical nature. The Product Engineer uses their welding/fabrication, metallurgical, and heat-treating knowledge to advise on manufacturing and inspection processes which are key to company operations. Additionally, the Product Engineer will support the Con Forms brand for technical guidance and inspection qualifications. The Product Engineer is an innovator and subject matter expert critical to our mission of adding value for our customers.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Perform pressure and structural calculation on pipes and pipe systems to specify and size components and weld requirements to meet customer specifications.
Collaborate with operations on manufacturing and inspection processes as required for products to meet customer specifications.
Provide technical expertise on acceptability of product against quality standards considering the final application.
Collaborate with sales team to provide technical data, review and approve projects and suggest alternative solutions.
Review CAD drawings of parts in 2D & 3D.
Qualify heat treat process on Ultra Tech and Conforms material.
Conduct failure analysis on Ultra Tech products in conjunction with the lab.
Review visual inspection of welds and dimensional inspection of parts.
Act as the lead on weld qualification and certification of welders.
Interact with Ultra Tech sales to clarify needs, technical requirements and educate on products.
Lead and participate in cross functional, collaborative projects that improve manufacturing processes and designs of Ultra Tech Products.
Develop new specifications and expand upon current specifications to meet current customer, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
Support the development of new products to meet customer needs.
Attend trade shows as a technical resource.
Support Con Forms products as necessary.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or Materials Science.
Minimum five years of experience in design and fabrication of steel welded pipeline products.
Have a working knowledge of metallurgy as it relates to heat treated steel and welding on heat treated steel.
Ability to apply industry specifications such as ASME Section IX Boiler Pressure Vessel Welding Code, ASME B31.3 and B31.1 Code for Pressure Piping, and ASTM A 53 piping standard to products to meet customer specifications and internal processes.
Familiarity with welding quality control processes such as visual, and or magnetic particle NDT inspection.
Familiarity with steel hardness testing equipment such micro hardness testers or handheld testers.
Prior experience with creating CAD drawings in 2D & 3D with tolerancing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Exposure to noise, sparks, smoke, fumes, and heat in a production environment.
Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and reach above the shoulders. Regularly required to sit and move from place to place. Will frequently talk and listen, used hands to finger, handle or touch. Ability to see both closely and at a distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Frequent use of computer requiring the ability to sit and type on a keyboard and use a mouse to gather and input information from various software packages. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and ERP systems.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, safety data, weld specifications, blueprints, drawings, routings, quotations, job instructions, or procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, peers, customers and vendors.
Ability to analyze, interpret and draw conclusions from a variety of sources furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions, units of measurement, and metric conversions.
Potential travel to vendor or customer sites as needed requiring a valid driver's license.
Regular and reliable attendance.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Willingness to train or work during hours outside of regularly scheduled shift as necessary.
