Job Title: Product Director

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is now hiring a Product Director! (This position can be located anywhere in the US)


The Director of Radnor Product Development is responsible for the oversight and growth of Airgas' Radnor Branded family of products. The Radnor Brand has grown into one of the largest brand of welding, cutting and safety products within the industry

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Work with our Division Radnor Steering Committee Leaders and our Region Associates to promote the growth of our Radnor product offering through either product conversions or the acquisition of new business.

Work with the Product Managers to effectively manage the breadth of Radnor products throughout our main categories within the welding, cutting and safety space.

Manage the P&L statement of our Radnor Brand of products by looking for opportunities to reduce costs of our existing Radnor Branded products as well as identify opportunities to grow the Brand.

Must be able to leverage Airgas Channels (e.g. Branches; Field Sales; Total Access & to foster the growth of the Radnor Brand.

Develop close ties with our Marketing Team in Conshohocken with the goal of supporting and growing our Radnor Brand through our Sales Channels. This includes but is not limited to the development of Radnor collateral; Branch Point of Purchase (POP) displays; Digital Marketing Campaigns; and Radnor landing pages on

Will need to rationalize our existing Radnor offerings and streamline the products in various categories with the goal of enabling our customers and Sales Teams to gain a better understanding of the value the Radnor product can offer to them.

Work with existing and prospective Radnor customers to identify areas of improvement for our current offering as well as new opportunities to introduce a new Radnor offering.

Work closely with Market Segment Leaders to identify Growth Opportunities related to the products and services Airgas offers.

Build out the cross-reference line of our Radnor Product offering to enable our customers and Sales Teams better visibility into the breadth of our Radnor product line and the identification of opportunities for conversion from an OEM product to the Radnor Branded product.

Manage incentive programs designed to encourage growth with our Radnor product offering.

Develop and manage a customer loyalty program for our Radnor customers.

Work on 'special projects' identified by the VP Hardgoods that will aid in the improvement of Airgas' Radnor offering.

Attend Trade Shows and Seminars that promote greater exposure for our Radnor Brand to our customers and internal associates.

Willing and able to drive (or have access to transportation), fly, and spend evenings away from home up to 50% travel.

Projects and other tasks as needed.


Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience preferred.

Master's degree preferred.

Management experience preferred.

Preferred five years of experience within Airgas &/or Air Liquide

Thorough understanding of Airgas' welding hardgoods and safety businesses.

Understanding of Airgas' various Channels (e.g. Field Sales; Branch;; Total Access) to market and experience in leveraging these channels to achieve sales growth.

Willing and able to drive (or have access to transportation), fly, and spend evenings away from home.

International Travel may be required, so the qualified candidate will have and maintain a valid passport and be willing to travel internationally.

Demonstrate ability to make decisions independently.

Past record of strong communication skills.

Ability to research and collect data that supports Airgas' goals and strategies for overall sales effectiveness.

Experience with developing and building strategic initiatives.

Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team atmosphere.

Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point

General knowledge of SAP preferred but not required.

Past record of identifying a goal, developing a plan to execute against the goal, and implementing the plan.

Responsible for product complaint investigation, handling, and closure as well as direct communication with suppliers and customers. MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance) * Assess submitted complaints for actionable data, including descriptions, pictures, samples and purchase history. * Decide when investigation and corrective action are necessary; issues supplier non-conformance alerts when warranted. * Communicates, documents and researches incidents and injuries involving VWR associates, suppliers, and customers; follows up and tracks the status of all complaints from initiation through completion. * Provide weekly metrics for Quality and Compliance management review. * Follows guidelines to assess risk and prioritize work based on factors such as: injury, product performance, health or safety hazards, production critical shut down, regulated customer written Supplier Corrective Actions requests (SCARS). * Authorize quality checks, quarantine or sell-hold based on risk or containment factors. * Engage Quality Management and or Legal regarding elevated risk factors such as injury or claims of monetary loss, product mislabeling, misbranding or health and safety. * Lead weekly complaint handling summaries and resolution with both suppliers and customers via weekly conference calls for response updates. * Facilitate calls with Suppliers Customers VWR Category Management, Directors of Supplier Operations and the VWR Sales Organization for effective complaint resolution including complaint history, trends, and previous actions. * Review past complaints and or similar product family complaints to assess trends; monitors supplier performance with regard to defects including packaging, labeling, and product quality. * Supports supplier qualification and site audits in conjunction with Regulatory and QA department needs. * Complete auditor training and perform Internal audits for VWR Operations in conjunction with ISO standards as directed. * May participate in quarterly supplier or customer business reviews as a representative of QA in conjunction with Sales or Category Management. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications) * Bachelor's degree, preferably in a field of Science or equivalent/applicable experience * 1-3 years of applicable business or lab experience * Experience in a lab or science background preferred * Experience with regulated customers and suppliers preferred * Experience in support of customer and supplier complaint management * Audit experience preferred KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently) * Good computer and Microsoft Office skills * Knowledge and skills in SAP preferred * Customer service skills; the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers * Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize work ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions) Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level. Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems. A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis. Minimal physical effort is required.
