I. RESPONSIBILITIES - PURPOSE
1/ To take care of the development of new products and of existing products upgrade to capture new business opportunities.
2/ To manage the team and set clear priorities to ensure the growth of the Business Unit
3/ To ensure the sales and profitability targets are realized for the BU by being technical interface with our current and future customers

III. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Active management role in understanding and supporting the business strategy; addressing customer/market needs and effectively deploying product development resources to deliver on priorities.
Responsible for the progress of all product development projects according to the technical and business objectives, schedules and budgets.
Manage, plan and deliver all product development objectives incorporating best practices (Project Management, Validation Process, Project Reviews, Green Chemistry and Sustainability principles)
Lead multifunctional teams as necessary to insure the successful outcome of development priorities.
Work closely with the Product Manager, technical customer service, supply chain and Sales to understand and address the market needs and priorities.
Manage a technical team. Responsible for all the administrative and career development aspects of the team members, including establishing yearly key work objectives, conducting performance evaluations, mentoring, and coaching.
Maintain market and technology expertise by actively engaging customers, external suppliers, and other external resources; by participating in external conferences; by maintaining current industry knowledge and by reviewing industry specific scientific & trade journals, etc.
Actively pursue and leverage internal resources and knowledge base to advance the capabilities of the product development organization (i.e. knowledge transfer).
Act as team member and/or team coordinator for existing product upgrade development projects when needed
Review product specifications and requirements; appraise new product ideas and/or product changes.
Assess market competition by comparing the company's product to competitors' products.
Provide technical support to production lines and to customers, supporting Sales and Marketing
Support product and process improvements in the plant
To ensure the understanding of customer's production process and identify challenges and problems in the process to solve customer's problems
To build a network within the customers' organization to enable access to information about the process and performance of our products
To represent the customer's technical requirements to the production and product development
IV. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Knowledges required:
Solid research & product development background (Master or PhD degree or equivalent) in polymer science, chemical engineering, chemistry, material, paper science or other technical field in combination with industrial experience in areas such as printing and coatings technology
Creative thinking and technical capability to come up with new ideas
Strong problem-solving skills
Availability for travelling, 10 to 30%
Availability to react to customer requests when needed in a professional manner but with tight timeframes to allow the customer to process products efficiently
Experience of customer relationships in dealing with technical problems at their facilities with Ahlstrom's products
