The Product Development Specialist (PDS) will assist and support the Manager, Product Innovation throughout the product development lifecycle of branded products that promote customer satisfaction and positively impact the financial performance of the enterprise. The PDS is responsible for ensuring the completion and accuracy of required documentation and while meeting stage gate timelines of the commercialization cycle of from concept through package development for the Vitamin Shoppe Inc Private Brand portfolio of brands.

Responsibilities

Execute finished product specifications (FPS) for the Vitamin Shoppe Private Brand portfolio

  • Partner with Category Managers, contract manufacturers, Quality Assurance and Science &Regulatory Affairs (S&RA) to complete accurate required documentation for products in a timely manner.

  • Assist in reviewing and developing science-based, cutting-edge product formulas across all categories for brands within the Private Brand portfolio. Ensure formulations are high quality, cost effective, efficacious and meet brand guidelines and category norms.

  • Bring foundational knowledge of dietary supplement raw ingredients market for quality, efficacy, and differences between generic and branded ingredients.

  • Build awareness and communicate emerging trends in the marketplace regarding demand for key ingredients.

Create label scripts for all new and optimized Vitamin Shoppe Private Brand portfolio

  • Partner with Category Managers and creative to write label scripts for product packaging.

  • Work with S&RA to substantiate claims for customer centric proposition, brand voice and accuracy.

  • Incorporate available science and clinical trial information on specific active ingredients and prepare substantiation dossier for claims approval by S&RA.

  • Assist in the creation of a structure function database for all approved claims for use on packaging and multi channel marketing.

  • Proof and ensure accuracy of all packaging components against FPS, brand portfolio standards and applicable regulations from draft to approval for release.

Champion innovation for The Vitamin Shoppe Private Brand portfolio

  • Meet with raw ingredient suppliers and other vendors and attend industry trade shows to build relationships and position Vitamin Shoppe as receptive to innovation.

  • Maintain understanding and alignment of innovation to brand guidelines to make recommendations for product branding.

  • Submit requests for review and initiation of the process to get branded ingredient trademark agreements negotiated and signed internally.

Other Functions:

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the product development process across the merchandising, S&RA, and creative departments.

  • Other project and duties as assigned.

  • Some out of town travel required.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree in a science related field or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience

Required Knowledge:

  • Dietary Supplement, functional food or related industry product development, technical and formulation.
  • DSHEA

Experience required:

  • 5-7 years of product development or Consumer Package Goods experience.

Skill and Ability:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient in MS office software.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Highly organized with sense of urgency and ability to prioritize workload in fast paced environment.

About the Mercury Support Team (MST): Finance Operations (FO) is an internal EY Finance organization that is part of EY's Global Mercury Support Team (MST) which in turn is jointly owned by business and IT. Finance Operations helps support several key Finance Products including Mercury (which is EY's SAP centric platform supporting Customer to Cash processes). The MST is a centralized and global organization that provides operational and support for the Mercury user community. The MST plays an integral governance role in the global Mercury solution and will evolve to work closely with the business to enable the benefit and value to be realized from the investment in Mercury and to set the future direction and technology road map. Position Summary: The scope of responsibility of this position includes the operation of a product or delivery of a Line of Service to a global client base. In this capacity the person will be the primary functional contact for the product or service line and will work with all necessary teams to ensure the service level agreements are maintained. Requires strong knowledge of the clients or product area's functions, services and system/service delivery life cycle.
